    and done

also cleaned up the inside of the bumper , and scuffed the chrome , and zinc'd

started working on the doors and inner trim panels .. got the inner of the doors cleaned up , and just about ready to prime .. also started on the trim panel

started with a flat sheet of fiberglass

marked it and trimed it to fit
I was going to have it 2 seperate pieces , like the stock panel , but my "mid speakers are to big :) ... there is a small "step" in the door panel anyway .. so cutting it and re glassing it will achieve a perfect fit with NO rattles .

starting the "mock up" for speaker location :)

got a little work done on the door panels the last few days .. building the speaker enclosures has been the most time consuming , but should pay off in the long run .
Instead if just cutting a hold in the door and mounting the speaker on top , I wanted to "enclose" the speaker in it own "pod" so the sound coming out of it is just that much better .. so I was thinking on how to do this .. building custom moulds would take to long .. and i'm really wanting to press on !!!!

so I decided to start looking for a mould already build which I could utalize .. started pulling bowls out of the cupbords and measureing for size , looking at all kinds of things I could use , even went to wallmart and searched for aplicapble forms . I ended up going to the dollar store , and finding a perfect size plastic dog dish for $1.50 and a smaller cat dish for $1.25 .

    started making my pieces ..
so I have 4 mids and tweeters going in .. 2 front 2 rear .
    I needed 6 bigger pieces , and 4 smaller pieces ..

so after I figure the speaker placement .. started to fit it all together .. cut the door metal to fit the "pods" and glassed the rear portion into place

cut down and prepped the new set of moulded pieces to fit the speakers

    and all mocked up

ready for some foam and leather to finish !!!

    should rock :)

Its quite interesting to see how someone who obviously does lots of fiberglass, but not necessarily stereo work build a door panel.

I like the speaker baffles, but the majority of car audio speakers are not designed to be in a sealed enclosure. It doesn't mean they absolutely won't sound good, but it will significantly change the way that speaker sounds. In my experience they are usually harder to tune, and give you a "snappier" mid bass.

Tell me you're gonna sell them to all us 79-83 guys with beat up door panels! Looks like a killer upgrade. I would vent the speakers somewhere too, like trap said. Fully enclosed can make them sound boomy.

I was thinking venting the bottom personally so they still served a funtional purpose as a weather guard. I would try them sealed, and pull out the body saw if they don't sound right.

dude .. your right .. I'm NO sterio guy :D , I know nothing about doing it right .
this is why I asked a professional before I did anything ..

because of the size of the airspace behind the speaker .. I shoud be good with the sound + weatherproofed is always good
