I got mine from lowes it's a Lincoln mig 180 it was like $750 about $250 cheaper than my local welding supply. It's a 220 volt an I use argon mix an I've welded 1/4" no problem
Stick you weld till the stick is gone then stop change the stick and continue on Wire feed you weld till your finished. Whats your definition of better?
stick welding is good for really heavy welding. for thinner stuff 1/4 inch and under, i like the miller-matic, lays down some sweet welds!
Something that is going to hold and strongest. I used to use a stick welder when i work at heavy equipment rental yard. So i know there strong if done right but was just wondering about the wire. Never welded on a truck so thats why i ask the best.
With wire you get more flexibility i would say. If your looking for penetration, heat is the answer and a bigger welder will allow you to do that in my opinion.
theoretically the VAFM could work. Grab the injectors? i guess you could save em for later, some other project, or sell em off the whole engine?
K cool thanks CINN. Whats a better welder, I have a choice from a LINCOLN ac-225 arc welder-- This one is stick, or a LINCOLN pro core 125, pro core 140 or a pro core 180. These ones are wire fed. So what one is good enough to work on our trucks?
Alright, I own a millermatic 180 with autoset, with an aluminum spool gun, and a cart. I found it on the web, cant remember the site, for 1000 bucks to my door. It will weld anything, its 230 vac, if I only had 115, I'd go with the millermatic 140, those little machines will still weld thick stuff, 1/4 in, great if, IF, you preheat with a torch. If you must have a red machine go with the lincoln power mig 180, for 230, or power mig 140, 120. If you need something a little cheaper go with the lincoln SP-180T or SP-140T. These two dont have infinite adjustments, that just means you can fine tune it for that perfect bead. If you still don't want to spend that much, then there's really no need to purchase a lesser machine, because with flux core, the welds will look like tin man siht, and you'll get discouraged and you will no longer have a desire to weld. Then you'll never learn to weld. Exaggerating just a little, but only a little.
