Hey guys need some help i have an 89 2wd 22re,as I was driving home from work the battery / brake light came on and I smelled something burning, I pulled over and the battery was smoking and the cable coming off the fuse box to the positive was a little melted , I let the battery cool down and unplugged the alternator because I thought it might be over charging the battery, I then started it up and started driving it,then the check engine light flashed and then something sparked under the dash , popped a couple efi fuses, I replaced them and now the truck starts and cuts off after 2-3 seconds. need some help I'm stuck driving the wifeys car at the moment

Something is grounding..check your fuse box or maybe your negative terminal is touching something

So the problem was happening when you had it turned on? I'd check the wiring through the ignition. Seems like if it was a dead short from the battery or at the fuse panel turning it off wouldn't have helped.

Have you driven over anything or had anything else abnormal happen lately?

All my wires looked fine but I found that my radiator hose was leaking and dripping onto the alternator, would this cause any electrical problems?

I pulled the battery the day before this happened and put it back in and then the next day after running my compressor for a couple mins is when the lights came on the dash

Check that the battery is connected correctly!
Check 3 fuses @ the drivers kick panel, Eng, IGN, & EFI !
Take the alternator & the battery out & to a Auto shop & have tested!
Bad alternator will kill a battery!!

So checked all my wiring checked all fuses everything looks good but I did notice I have no check engine light when I turn the ignition to the on position, I also have no interior lights no buzzer when I put the key in and my alarm and CD player are not working, could it be a relay on the kick panel as I did see sparks under the dash when it originally died??
