So, I installed new clutch and slave cyljnder. I can't seem to get the clutch to disengage. I can put it in first gear when engine is off but I can't when it's running. I could get it in gear if I pump my clutch several time. I bled my slave cylinder. I see my slave cylinder rod moving.

Then I decided to get a new master cylinder. I bled it and still won't disengage even if I pump the clutch several times.

    Any ideas?

Can you adjust the rod on the slave? Maybe its not getting enough movement

Yeah, I tried adjusting it by making it longer and shorter but still won't engage.

I think you need a new slave.

New development: When I take off the spring on slave cylinder to fork, the clutch pedal become stiffer and I can get it into gear. Any ideas?

Yeah adjusted it but no luck. Only works when spring is off.

I'm working off of memory here, but, what spring? Is this spring compressing the slave cylinder? IIRC, the slave cylinder rod is held between the fork and slave cylinder piston by a relatively weak spring inside the slave cylinder, pushing out. I don't remember any external spring on the clutch system, anywhere. It sounds like the spring is compressing the slave cylinder so that when you step on the clutch pedal once, the cylinder works but you've used up the travel so the clutch is not disengaged. Pumping the pedal pushes more fluid through the cylinder to then disengage the clutch.

I don't know anything about your truck ,year,model,2 x 4 or 4 x 4. My truck the clutch pedal should have 1-5mm play in it(.04-.2") and the pedal height should be 152-162mm (6-6.4") from the floor according to the Factory 1980 Toyota Repair Manual on page 9-3 then on page 9-4 it says free play for the RN 4 x 4 is 25-45mm and the RN 2 x 4 is 5- 15mm. At the point where the master cylinder rod is hooked to the pedal is the adjustment on mine.It shows a spring on the bottom of the slave to the hole on the bottom of the fork to keep the fork from coming off, just a return spring. It should make it easier to push if it's on correctly, is it binding up?I think you have the spring on wrong or still have air in the line. Interesting. I have never seen such a spring, not even on my 1979 Celica. I guess then it probably is air in the system.

I bled the crap out of it. I adjusted it every way and still won't disengage. Maybe I have the wrong spring?

I never thought about getting rid of air bubbles this way. I'll give it a try. Thanks!
