So my power steering pump has been leaking for a good 2 years now, its basically coated EVERYTHING in powersteering fluid, then it has dirt build up so its like a thick gunk on everything, after repairing the power steering pump what is a good way to clean out everything without ripping it apart? any ideas?
Watch it with that pressure washer, you may blow something apart and not relize it. Just be extra careful when doing it.
If you pressure wash the engine bay try and keep the direct spray of water away from any electronics or other sensitive parts.
I was thinking about the pressure wash, and ya i read about covering all the electronics and certain things with just some heavy duty trashbags and some rubber bands, so i think im gonna try that with some purple power...just gotta fix the seals on the power steering pump -.- ick
lol i tried the wd40 thing for a while, but that requires rubbing and it leaves it greasy and **** built up on it
use Super Clean at full strength, let soak, rinse with hot water, repeat, Super clean is about as strong as it gets and definately cleans the best. Try not to get alot of it on asphalt since it will start to break it down.......best to go to a car wash or find some cement to do it on.
this shall prove to be a task. anyone know where i can find a power steering box for an 86 toyota 4x4 22r?
1. Try Simple green and Dawn dish soap @ 50/50 mixed in a gallon... 2. Boil up some hot water in a pot and pour it on the affected area to loosen up the greasy stuff... 3. Then spray some of that ^^ stuff and let it soak in... 4. Rinse with hot water again... 5. Repeat as necessary...
my buddy just told me to start my car just to get the engine warm enuf to loosen it up but not hot enuf to burn ur hand
Google carbon x and order some of that stuff. It's what we use at work to get grease and oil off of airplanes. It is super strong stuff, i diluted it a bunch and it still took the crap off my motor and i just sprayed it off with the hose.
Simple green is good enough. I dilute it with water 50/50. 1.) Spray simple green all over the engine bay. (Be sure to cover major electrical parts) 2.) Then start your vehicle and get it to operating temp. (Just till the engine bay gets warm) 3.) Turn your vehicle off spray a little more simple green. Let it sit for 5-10 mins. 4.) Then just set your hose to spray, and spray your engine bay down with water. (Being sure to avoid spraying electrical pieces excessively.) 5.) Keep hood open to dry off and wipe down the parts in the engine bay where water may be sitting. 6.) Repeat till you are satisfied. Tip: I usually wait till it dries up then go again with a bottle of simple green and spray it on the pieces that didn't totally get clean and then wipe it down with a cloth. This get's the dirt and grime off. Hope it works out.
Pressure washing is the way to go. Dilute that Purple Power with a little water. Full strength, that stuff is awesome but will turn aluminum parts white with oxidation. I found that out the hard way. Polished aluminum turned foggy and took a while to rub out.
