Do they help with MPG? I'm flat broke and need to save as much moola as possible. Another thing; what about the hole where the standard hose connects to the intake? How would you cover it, a second breather? I am still new to working on my own truck.
why run breathers or pcv ? I just left mine open with no hose on either and it never spit oil out, my hood never got dirty from it spray up or anything...only when I blew my pistons it started spraying oil....
For us Guys in California, we have to worry about a little something called SMOG TESTS. Unfortunately, that would be considered modifying your emissions and you would fail the visual inspection. On a previous truck I had(87 4wd 22r), I drilled extra holes on the top of my air cleaner to get more air for the K&N filter and that got flagged. I had to pick up another top before I got the truck to pass. On a different note, smog tests are done every 2 years, so things could be put back to stock right before smog.
Still, is that black crap in the throttle body backdrafted oil? Because I may just buy one and improvise with the hole in the intake. Say screw it and put the hose back on when smog time comes again.
I am still wondering, what about the other hole on intake? I just don't want something being sucked in there when I do go off road, because it's bad enough with rocks hitting the paint... part of the reason I am looking for OE front mudflaps, I got my truck without them.
im still waiting to see if the breather is only for a 2xR or can it b used on a 22rE??? cmon guys it seems like less n less questions on here r getting answered
ok i will answer the questions. first i like to say sorry, i havent been lookin 2 indept in the forums last few days/weeks. Got RL things going on. the front breather can be used on either R or RE. the black stuff ur seeing in ur intake is most likely oil that was blown past ur PCV valve. throttle body clear will help clean it off. I would also recommend replacing the PCV valve. Front Breather-- ok for the RE guys, when u replace the front with one of those small filters, plug the place the hose connects to with either a rubber cap or something that will cover the hole. R guys(forgive me if im wrong) u sould be able to do the same as the RE guys. Rear Breather-- leave the PCV valve in place. Here is an idea, now i havent done this but do plan on it when i get the time. IF u like to help keep the oil from going into ur intake then u need a catch can of some sort..just place it in between ur pcv valve and intake. Hope this answered the questions. If i missed one repost it and i will answer..
thnx frinzo i was wonderin if u knew if i need a 4runner core for my lights to sit flush when i get the 4runner conversion
Thank you Frinzo. All of my questions that were important have been answered Now I will go and do just that. Thanks for being cool about it too!
so i was looking for a breather and there were 2 different sizes... a 9mm and a 12mm, so which one is for the 22re?
I honestly dont know, but just take a tape measure out to ur truck and measure it, that be the best way to make sure u get the correct size.
Thanks for the input Frinzo, but I guess I'll just stick with the rubber line for now. I went looking at all the Auto Zones from Menifee to my home with no success yet. Maybe later I'll give it another shot, but not now.
I measured... it's a 15mm diameter on my 22RE's valve cover and 10mm on the intake manifold, that's why I wasn't able to find one at any of my Auto Zones out here. I'll try Autoaid (aunt & uncle's) later, at least if they don't have it, they can order one and get it for me usually overnight.
