Ok so when I bought my 73 hilux it had a front disc brake swap already and what I was assuming to be the original master and booster. The pedal went all the way to the floor then the brakes would start slowing. So I replaced the master and booster with those out of a 81 toyota pickup (brand new). That then caused the pedal to be really hard and barely move, drove it to work the other day and the brake pedal got harder the usual and I smelled brakes, once I got home I figured it was a locked up caliper. I replaced the calipers today bled brakes drove it and I'm still having the same problem. I'm frustrated and stumped at this point anyone have any ideas?

Brakes are hard and get harder as I drive, new master, booster, calipers and pads (out of a 81). It does NOT have a proportioning valve yet

any ideas or suggestions any info would be appreciated

I cant remember what effect a vacuum leak to the booster has but that might be something to look at

A vacuum leak at the booster would just cause it to stop boosting. It would make the pedal hard but that's because you would effectively have manual brakes.

alwaysbroke, I'd check to make sure the slide pins are in good shape and well greased, it sounds like the brakes might be sticking.

The slide pins are brand new and I greased em before I put em in, I think they're sticking too, is there anything else that would cause that?

I read in a couple places that it could possibly be a co lapsed brake line(s) they look pretty bad so I'll try and get some and replace those and see if that helps. Anyone else hear of anything like this

Does it happen when you're turning? It might be a soft line binding up and causing pressure to build.

anyone know if a 83 booster will work? I can probably get one for cheap with the MC. I already have the spindles, calipers and all that.

What else would i need to pull from the donor?

I put in an 83 booster. I've yet to finish the setup so can't promise with 100% certainty it will work but I had to take the spacer out in order for everything to fit happily.

Hows the spacing between the booster and clutch MC? Do you have a pic by any chance?

I don't have a pic, but I can take one tomorrow. Spacing was totally fine around it. Really no problems other than removing the spacer and making my own gasket.
