    Opinions wanted.

As you already know we don't have a whole lot of gauges in our factory set-up. Fuel and Water Temp and a few warning lights.

If you were to add to additional set of gauges what two would they, or should they be. I'm thinking along the lines of importance.

    Just two. Which two?

Thanks for your time and opinions! :)

I kinda thought about that myself, and I would get a tach, center speedo, and one of the 4 guage combos that has fuel, water temp, oil pressure, volts. Something like these:

    http://www.autometer.com/img/products/1287_d.jpg

Maybe not that style, but you get the picture. I think they make a combo that's not 5", but I'm not sure. If not I would get the 5" speedo, 5" combo, and 3.375" tach, put the warning lights above the tach, and the directionals on either side of the speedo. Has anyone measured the height of the dash bezel? Is it taller than 5"? I'm at work so can't check. I would guess it's close. I've built them before and something like that would be cool. :waytogo:

If I had to only add two though, it would be a tach and oil pressure.

inclinometer...to know if i can make it into a steep driveway that low. lol. 4runners had em.

but really, i would add a tach and an oil pressure. really, those are the only 2 you need. the speedo can be covered by the tach if you do some math. and the gas is a no biggie. and ususally i can hear a steam hiss if i overheat. they dont run low cuz i check stuff all the time. lol.

Tach, bar none. It has far too many uses to not be included. In the right hands, a tach is all you need to tune a carb.

I'm a fan of also having, oil pressure, and water temp (in real numbers, not just a generic space with a needle)

    Oh, and bottle pressure...:D

It would drive me nuts to drive something with a water temp gauge. oil I dont think is as important, unless you catch it right as it gets really low on oil pressure, if it gets low pressure and starts knocking the damage is probably already done...

of the 6 my dodge has, the tach and water temp are all i watch. and the gas is the only other that works. lol. i disconnected the rest for various design flaws or leaks. lol. my yota ill probably add a couple the factory didnt have. im still debating where to put a tach. in the dash or on the corner.

lol im in agreement with that drift angle one myself, but that's an non-necessity. in my 72 hilux, the fuel gauge doesnt even work so that leaves me with a not-so-accurate speedo and that's it. i would replace the entire set with: speedo, tach, water temp, oil press/temp, fuel, voltage, and odometer. for extra unnecessary gauges, i would add boost and drift gauges. but that's just me :)

I gots no truck, for now
water and tach..... you just need a light to tell low oil pressure...
you could use the water to tell if you are starting to get hot and a tach is just a nice thing to have.

btw my speedo doesnt work, cable broke and i havnt fixed it yet, so i just got fuel.. lol

lol in a way i would rather have the fuel than the inacurate speedo. im probably going to replace all the gauges in mine anyway, just to resolve any issues with the factory gauges.

Why would you add a boost gauge unless you have something to make it work:D

ya me too, but people keep telling my my auto tranny is fried, cuz they can hear it:D

since your lucky and have a temp gauge built in, id go with a amp/volt gauge and oil pressure.

i had no temp gauge stock, so i added a temp/oil/volt cheapo combo where the stock stereo would of been

    for the masses:

the oil light will come on when the pickup tube sucks air, this may or may not be too late. usually it comes on at about 1.25qts low.

i can vouche for that. i had a bad leak that i finally found, and it would flicker as i would leave a stop on any hills and was lower than about 1 - 1-1/2 qts low.
