Which 5 speed tranny is the good one for the 2 wheel drive trucks?

Is there a specific one that will be more 'sporty'?

A w50 out of a celica probably has the best, sportiest gearsets.

W58s are nice because they have a close 2-3 and a tall ass 5th.

W58 is really light. The W50 is solid cast iron, very heavy. :waytogo:

The W58's gear ratio's are close together keeping you in the powerband from 1,2,3,4 (which i like to use :D ).

I read 35kg, it's an all aluminum shell with a steel sandwich plate, best modification I've personally done. (myself)

Some of the Celica's actually had W58's I believe.

so do you think the w58 would be a better tranny to make a fast truck with over the w50? and how will a w58 do for gas mileage? around 60-70 mph? is it going to keep the mileage up as well as give me some more umph in the lower gears?

I think the w58 is great all around ! I beleive its the best performance mod I did to my truck, but I was originally 4 speed. Im not sure on mpg, you will have to check what 5th gear is compared to what you have to see if your rpm will drop. but TOO low and you will LOOSE mpg because you wont have any torque.

W58 is actually better 5th gear than the other manuals in the trucks.

    it has a .783 5th gear overdrive.

As for mileage, I've been getting a consistent 22-23mpg driving around like a jackass in the cold weather.

I have an xcab, 22re, w58, and 3.41's. let's not forget i have EGR not connected so if I drove around without getting on it, i think it'd be getting 25mpg plus (which has happened before)

Doing 60mph with my setup (close to stock tire height too), I'm at 2000rpm's approximate.

Interesting. I have an extracab 22re as well, but it has the automatic/overdrive. nor do i know what gears i have in it?

The fuel mileage was more of a question then a concern, i've never heard of one of these trucks actually getting bad mileage. My main concern is making it more exciting to drive! and obviously still maintaing a drivablity that will be practical for daily driving.

I installed a W58 with an LCE 13lbs flywheel and wow. So much more fun and I have 17" wheels and get about 28-32mpgs on the highway. @ 70mph I turn 2200rpms and before was @3k. Great mod for mpg and fun to drive.

Its definitely an instigation hearing how you guys like your w58s to make me want one.

Titan, will you PM me on what you would want for the tranny flywheel and clutch?
