First off decide what rpm range you are aiming for. If you want to see a solid pulling engine up to 7k then you need to buy parts accordingly.

Engnbldr.com has a decent quality full rebuild kit at a great price. Start with a solid short block and buildall the power in the head. Some mild port work and gasket matching will go a long way. Oversized valves will certainly help as well. Depending on your cam choice ie rpm range either a good tri y or long tube 4 into 1 header will be required.

Hell yeah agreed with 22R. Raff can rev to 7k on his motor, and probably spent that much too, nah just playing.

Swap a 20R head on it too, boost compression

    Mild performance-

    rebuild it with 10:1's
Webers, Mikunis, or a Holley (on aftermarket intake)
    A header and exhaust
    And a mild cam

Then gear your truck and drive it.

But for REAL power (like anything over 150 HP) plan on boosting it or get a different motor.

No need to spend money on high dollar rods, crank, bearings, rings, clutch, headgaskets , IDK about headwork though....

I dropped almost a grand into my cyl head (48 and 40's) and a adjustable sprocket, and basically only went a tenth faster in the traps.

(To its defence the carb didnt idle and it still has lousy ass gears, with an open diff and street tires)

Soo do what you want. I like mine because you can hear it 3 blocks away fron intake growl, but in reality, its quick (and gives my mustang a good run for its money), but no means nasty.

    Hope it helps

I totally agree with Oly the 22r motor will cost a bunch of money to make it really fast. Better off doing a swap. 1jz, 7mgte, 2jz or even a 2rz or 3rz would be a better choice. Good luck on what you decide though. :waytogo:
