alrighty.. i'm gonna start throwing some money at my truck and i want it lower.. the shocks are toast, so they'll need replacing.. i'll probably just do some lowering blocks in the rear, but what about the front.. i use drop spindles right? i dont have too much to spend, but i have a little.. now what would you suggest as far as shocks?? .. i want something of decent quality but not too pricey .. i can get lowering blocks just about anywhere in town .. as far as drop spindles, they can be pretty expensive huh.. any cheap options out there?? estimated, what will i be spending to drop my truck a few inches??
On ebay they have drop spindles and blocks together for $240 or so shipped. The spindles are definitely the way to go. I used Toxic shocks made by Pro Comp, they are great riding, but not too impressed by the finish. After a year or so, they are starting to rust. Unfortunately though, this will happen with most less expensive shock bodies.
Litneon, get your next set powder coated by someone capable thats local. It'll never happen again. Hows the quality on those shocks, are they durable? Are the rates higher? I refuse to ride on any shocks that arn't stiffer than stock. Currently I'm running Bilstein HDs.
Don't know about powder coating shocks, after baking in the oven used the seals might fail!! As for tiring to go cheap, do your self a big favor do it once & do it right. Just start collecting the parts one @ a time, until you have all needed to do the job right. Doing it cheap will just cost you more in the end!! Years of experience have taught me this !!
I completely agree, do it right the first time. I went cheaper on the shocks when I should have bought the bilstein 5100's up front. I run them on my 4runner and have had no problems what so ever. Aluminum bodies and good chromed shafts - that's where it's at.... Also, I'm not sure about the powdercoating issue, I think they might hold up to the heat, but you can't powdercoat the chrome shaft too. Well, I guess you could, but you wouldn't want to install them on the truck again, they wouldn't last long.
well i found a guy selling these.. he claims they're Belltech and says its just surface rust.. would i be able to sandblast these??
The Belltech's for my 88 didn't have the ribs on them. Go to Belltech's site & get a picture of the ones for your year.
my prices . . . When I decided to drop my truck I ordered everything at once, most everything came from ( Streetbeatcustoms.com ) except for the drop blocks which I ordered from ( Summitracing.com ) ! I collected everything & then installed it ! Belltech 1984 - 1995 2" drop spindles ( $ 262.40 NEW " see attached thread for pictures to compare or go to Belltechs site ! ") Nitrodrop ( 7007 front drop shocks $34.00 ) Nitrodrop ( 7515 rear drop shocks $34.00 ) Blocks 3" ( for now ! ) $12.00 + shipping . . . with shipping & handling it came to around $ 358 and change to get everything, overall install was semi-easy, the alignment was $20 ! I used a "toeboard" to get me close enough until the alignment was done ! For a first timer, Ide recommend not to do this by yourself, unless you gots patience and time, otherwise, shop around and get a ( qoute ) and wait for the right price for your budget. Rough time of install: not including alignment, 5 - 6 hours " with breaks ! " ! I am going to be putting on my 3" Belltech drop springs & 1 1/2" blocks ( 4 1/2" drop "rear" ) & crank the torsions 1.25" or so & install new low-pro bumpstops when the weather breaks & put my new 17" rims & low-pro 45 series tires until then, I watch the parts glimmer in the corner of my bedroom http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/bel2000.html L o w N l o u d
I haven't done the drop spindles yet, but lowered the front with torsion bars and 3" blocks on the rear, running 215/45 18. Spindles will be going in this spring hopefully.
Make sure to use angled blocks to keep the pinion angle correct. And with that much of a drop @ the rear, you may have to install a notch,or the pumpkin will top out on bumps, causing a real rough ride!
