Theres a guy in Ojai trying to re-sell the axle i sold him out of my 89. Check it out on craigslist, he wants $50.
Hit up Gina and Robyn at the Mini Truck place. You can use your 95.5-04 3rd member and also your brake parts since you know all of this stuff is used daily and in good shape. It'll all fit a earlier 7.5 axle. What you mainly need is the housing and the axles. You can save $ by getting one w/o the 3rd member. If you want to keep things simple, find one that has the housing, and axles and backing plates, since the backing plates will be pressed onto the axle and you won't have to deal with pressing bearings and all that BS. I found my 89 axle on craigslist for $50 drum to drum, and used my 99 3rd member and 99 brake hardware (shoes & springs) brake lines on axle, and wheel cylinders. You do have to swap 2 tabs around (cut them off and reweld them on) if you want a factory looking install. I used the 89 housing, axles, bearings and backing plates. I sold the 89 3rd member to mjbtaco when he needed one for his 95.5 for $65. I have a thread I made when I did the swap buried in my profile on CT. It has good info. The swap was easy and cost me $50 and some gear oil. Now I run 18x9 +36 with 275/35/18 tuckin' on a 7" rear drop.
