I am highly considering replacing my cab, since its been rolled. ( base model cab, mines not the sr5 ) I am also looking for 2 rust free front fenders, a passenger door glass, a good drivers side tail light lens, and both tail light surrounds. I would also like to see if anyone ever made drop spindles for these trucks, or if not, if everyone just updates the front suspension to 84-94 stuff, and if so, does anyone have drop spindles for that? Im located in central Ohio. I can pick up the cab, if its not super far. ( like Cali far ) And if I could be so lucky and get these parts in yellow... man thatd be great!
I have a window and some tail light surrounds. Don't know of I have the light bucket or lenses. Can't help with the other body parts. Have like ten sets of cab vents tho.
taillights Toyota Hilux RN20 RN25 A Pair of Taillight w Surround | eBay only sheetmetal parts i've found aftermarket is a hood. other then that junkyard and ebay/craigslist for those parts. nobody makes drop spindles for 83 and older trucks. they make em for 84-95, but those won't adapt to your stock suspension without major surgery.
The minimum I've seen to run drop spindles for an 85-95 is flipping the lower balljoints upside down. Grind off the divot and add a support plate on both sides of the arm. I plan to put a stock spindle for those on. Don't know how it will effect the geometry but measuring shows it'll pull the wheel in about 20mm and not mess with the camber much. As for sheet metal and glass, you're out of luck. It's too old. Find a local parts truck or have it shipped. I did come up with that passenger glass and a driver tail light today. Make an offer. Ill find out how much to ship.
I ultimately want to bag it, and I have already built a bagged s10. i originally put drop spindles on the dime, but came to find out that I was rolling with way too much negative camber at ride height and was murdering tires, so I ended up putting my stock spindles back on. I have no idea if this will be an issue on the hilux, but i can already tell i am going to have to completely remove the spring pockets in front and fab my own bag mounts. i dont see anyway possible for me to stuff a 2500 up front and expect to drive it and not slice my bags.
RE-5 bags fit in the spring pocket. My buddy bagged his 77. He z'd the front about 1.5" and it has minimal camber through out the travel. I'm about 1.5" from the crossmember being on the street. I have about a 1/4" thick stack of shims between my upper arm shaft an the frame. It gives me lots of NC but the tires don't eat up too badly considering. Gonna have that aligned out. As for now, I would focus on trying to make stock 85-95 spindles work. It will gain you a vented brake rotor of nothing else. 78 brakes are just terrible.
