ok I'm looking at doing a 4/4 drop on my 87. my question is will my stock tires rub the fenders? I've got 205/75/14 on it now. I'm planning on getting rims and tires for it though, so I don't really want to buy new tires for the 14s. 2nd question. What tire size would work right with a 4/4 drop and 16" wheels? If I have to I guess I can just save up and buy the drop stuff and the wheels and tires at the same time, but that takes longer. And I want to drop this thing now! lol Thanks Andy
you could easily run some 205/50 on the 16 inch wheels and be fine. depending on the offset of the wheels you get, you may need to roll the front fenders for when you turn the wheel lock to lock.
I had an 8" drop with 225/50/16s up front on my 78. Only rubbed on hard corners. I did alot of inner fender hammering. On my 92, I was 4" up front and had 195/75/14s clear. You should be good with a 50 or 55 series on a 16. Anything taller just looks too tall I think. About a 25" tall tire is perfect on a lowered toyota.
well I had a unexpected development today. A friend of mine had a mustang he just put some rims on so I picked these up for $150: they have 245/45/17 tires on them. I put them up next to the truck and they don't seem much taller, but they are definitely wider. I will have to buy tires for them soon though, they are pretty worn out. what size should I go with a 17x8 rim and a 4/4 drop? Thanks for the responses so far!
since you have them already, throw them on. then look at the way they sit from every angle and measure out about a 4 inch drop. you could run a 225 or 235 wide tire easily on there. the 225 would stretch a little and the 235 not so much. imho id run a 225 or 235 up front and keep the 245 out back. you may be able to actually run the 245 up front as well with a little fender rolling and/or trimming.
thanks man. I'm gonna try to throw them on tomorrow and see what it looks like. I'm thinking its gonna look dumb sitting at stock height but we'll see lol.
well theyre on doesn't look as bad as I thought it would at stock height. ordered my lowering parts too
watch the back shock leaf plates mine shaved grooves in the sidewall till i trimmed them on 245-50s but i have 5 in blocks
