wide wheels and tires

    Hate to sound like a newbie since I am 40 and have been customizing cars for 25 years . but I am new to Toyota mods , and modifying Toyota trucks.

    Is it possible to fit 17x9 +24 and 17x10 +20 mustang wheels to a static dropped 94 ish extra-cab . I say 94 ish because its actually a 96 but built in 5th gen style. truck is from Thailand.

    I have read most of the post here , and researched other places as well ,and seem to be getting even more confused by the day :brickknock:. thanks for any help you can provide .

    i would have to measure the clearances on a truck but i'd say you would be very close. all depends on how low you want the truck to sit as well as what tire size you run. rear might not be so much an issue as it will be the front that will start rubbing........ you may need to clearance the fender wells some in order to allow the wheel full movement without rubbing..... if you dont mind a tire rub here and there it may be fine..

    ive seen those specific wheel sizes on a lowered yota but not sure on the offset. measure your clearances.... you may need to pull, tuck, or roll the fenders a bit to clear them. good luck!

    How much is the truck lowered? I think the rears will fit with the occasional small rub on the frame rail and inside of the tire, but it also depends on the tire size.
    The fronts will rub, although probably only at full lock turning left or right. You will need to flatten out the pinch weld and maybe do some other light hammering to minimize rubbing.

    Could always run some 4wd fenders on the front for a little extra room depending on how much static drop your planning, Still doesnt help on the inside though. Maybe run some 4wd fenders and a small spacer on the front

    First thank you for the replies , drop will only be a 2/3 drop due to road conditions and speed bumps like the rockies . I have no problem with a little hammering grinding to clearance things , since the plan is total rebuild . OK more research and measuring before my wheel purchase since i will have to import and the duty is gonna be a killer

    They will fit.

    I put some 10th annerversarry (sp?) mustang cobra replica wheels on my truck.

    17X9 and 17X10.5 rear wheel size

    265 and 295 tread width tires.

    But I have fender flares, and they came flush with the edge.

    It looked SOOO tough, shoulda kept that picture. :doah:

    I would have a proper fender roller on stand by.
    Remember to remove all fender splash guard hardware, even the screws on the rear wheel wells, because if you roll it... it's gunna mess up the bed sides. big no no.


    Try fitting wheels first, find out how much space left, and then go on from there.


    How about fit wheels first, post up a pic, and I'll help you from there on.


    I'd rather have you do it right the first time as I have ****ed up my own fenders in the rear doing so.

    the measurements i would take in order to fit wheels would be from the following places.

    in the rear: take off your wheel. measure the distance between your frame rail and the WMS. (wheel mounting surface) >surface of the drum or disk face< that will give you your backspace or offset measurement.

    second, take the measurement between the frame rail, and the inner part of the fender well..... this will give you a measurement of how wide of a space you have to fit a wheel in.... (how wide of a wheel you can stuff in the wheel well.)

    next, measure the space between your WMS (wheel mounting surface) and the inner part of your fender well. this will give you the other part of the equation of how deep of a lip you can run, you can divide this measurement between the backspace/offset between the frame rail and WMS.

    for the front, it will be pretty much the same formula except your main concerns will be clearing the upper control arm, lower control arm, inner pinch welds, and front strut arm support (when turning). these measurements should give you ample info on what wheel size and offset combinations you can run. beyond this........ tire size will determine your overall diameter clearance between your fender wells.

    your main rubbing issues will be in the front. so long as you ccan clear the rear..... your fronts will be your limiting factors.

    Again thanks for all the replies, I would love to test fit wheels first but since the wheel size I want is not sold in the country I currently live. Things become very tricky and very expensive when trying to go as wide as possible.
