Ok, I've got an 87 2wd with 130k miles on it. It had a blowed head gasket on it when I bought and I have it tore down and the head is at the machine shop. While I've got it apart, I have removed all of the unnecessary vacume lines and egr stuff. I'm also adding a header and was thinking of doing some gasket matching on the intake and head. I am eventually going to put a weber down draft on but am not sure which one would be best for my application. What do ya'll recommend?

I'm also thinking about adding a new cam. The truck is going to be a daily that I want to get good gas mileage with, but would also like to have more power. Is there a cam out there that would boost power and fuel mileage? What do ya'll recommend? I have been looking at engnbldr 261 and 268 cams and am unsure of which one. Oh, and the truck will have 19" rims and lowered, so I'm afraid that I will need more power.

    Thanks
    Trey

from some of the responses ive had here seems like everyone has their flavor as far as what carb to get when considering a weber. if fuel consumption is a concern i'd suggest (based on responses here) the 32/36..... someone else will chime in on this.

as for the cam..... keep in mind that in order to add performance you must give up something somewhere wich is usually fuel efficiency (to a point). i would look to an LC engineering cam. i run the 270/430 engnbldr cam as well but i felt it was a bit tame compared to the LCE stage 2 cam i had in my 4runner....

although if you can keep your foot out of it making more power increases milage to an extent. things like a mild cam, and getting the air in/out of the engine have always made nice increases for me. bone stock my 78 got about 17-18 in town with just a 32/36 carb. now im at about 22 in town. thats with exhaust, headwork, porting, ign, ect.

32/36 + engnbldr RV cam call them first, they explain and know what you want better then i do.

    but you want a 32/36.

buttdyno2010 proven 10-20hp, better throttle response and capable of over 30mpg if you keep your foot out of it. simple adaptable carb, it can grow with you till you HAVE TO upgrade to a sidedraft for more flow. also available in a C.A.R.B. approved emissions flavor (thats cali smog nazi). its also a progressive carb, meaning you drive mostly on one barrel, then you stomp on it and the secondary's open at about 70%. i swear by them.

also upgrade the ignition/electrical system. between the 2 i got about 10mpg on my wheeler with 4.10s and 35's.

i will praise them as well. i have a header, ported intake, bigger valves in a fresh head, and good ignition...and my 32/36 is still holding with it. and with 4.10s and 195/70/14s ive gotton 31+/mpg

Thanks for the info! I'm going to go with the weber 32/36 when I get my motor back together. I guess I will be emailling engnbldr on which cam.

    Thanks
