ok guys, My yota has either cracked another head, or blew a head gasket, regardless i'm tired of the issue. I've been considering a big performance upgrade soon anyway because the truck has a habit of being plumb unreliable these days. Anyway I want to either put in my souped of 355 sbc motor in it or wedge a 2jz under the hood. I already have the conversion mounts for the SBC. But on the otherhand I would love to have it running a yota motor. What do you guys think, should i just park it under the garage until I have the dough for a 2jz, or go ahead and shove the 355 off in her?

I'd say the 2jz that's only because it's a yota motor an ou could probably get more hp outta the 2jz

That's the reason I want a 2jz, but it'll take around a year to save up the dough. Think its worth the wait? I'm in between the two. I love the sound and bottom end torque of a souped up V8, but i also love a turbo 6 cylinder. either way its gonna be a good project for the next little bit.

summit racing, they were like 105 shipped, got them like a year ago to do the small block swap, but plans changed and i needed a gas saver so i went back with another 22r. They bolt right in hassle free, the only problem i see with doing a small block swap now is headers. I've got some v8 s10 headers, but i don't know if they will clear everything or not.

ok, so the more i think about it, the more i want to hear that chevy motor loping in my yota, figure i'll save money using a motor i already have that is already pushing around 350-400 horses. anyone else out there running a chevy motor in their yota? Any suggestions on what headers to use, or if s10 conversion headers will fit?

i think you just are going to have to run block hugger headers and then have somebody fab up the rest of the exhaust for ya.. thats what i would do.

    V8 FTW.

Our shop in Colorado had a chevota project that was SOO close to being finished. 4wd tho. body and suspension lift, turbo 350 toyo t cases, lots of money spent on that radiator...

Im kinda going the same route. 306 ford power (narrower) plus you can buy mounts. I got my engine back from the machine shop like 2 days ago.

It's really up to you man. Personally I'd stick to the 2jz plan but that's only because I don't like v8s in minis just a thing I have

I'd love to do a 2jz but it would be a long wait. I found some block hugger headers on JT Outfitters, anyone familiar with these?

the 2jz is too heavy for our trucks unless you do drag only. The 1jz will have the same amount of power, be lighter, and cheaper. The 1uz v8 is even lighter, cheaper, and a little less hp but not much. If I did it again, I would get the 1uz. its the most bang for the buck and fitment is much easier along with parts more available in the u.s.a

I think this time around i'm gonna put the small block in it, I can always swap to another yota motor down the road, like maybe a 1jz. It was my first truck so its probably going to be a life long project truck for me anyway. I plan on posting a build up page, I'll let you guys know how it goes, I plan to get started next weekend.
