Im gettin ready to Z my frame and I was wondering if any where sells dropped motor mounts? I dont wanna have to cut my hood out one its Z'd.. thanks for any help
Is it a stock engine? If so you can't really drop it much without hitting the oil pan on the engine crossmember and the steering drag link. And for what it's worth, I Z'd my frame 1 1/4" inches and it still clears the stock hood without dropping the engine mounts. Even with the new top mount turbo...
Oh really? And the 1.25" Z was enough to layout frame? If so I wont even worry bout droppin the motor mounts in that case.. but yes stock engine
Yep. I think it was actually less than that, but between there and 1". I looked into sectioning the pan to get it to clear the steering linkage, but decided it wasn't worth it.
You aren't about to clear anything with stock mounts if your body dropped. Which you are. I Z'd 1.25" and dropped my mounts 1" and I still barely rub the front valve cost vent hose. I also have a stock oil pan too. The crossmember under the engine needs to be trimmed and the steering draglink may need to be modified. Each truck is different. Mail me your mounts, ill drop em for you. 1" for 50 bucks. You cover shipping both ways and Paypal fees.
^ This. Mine only need roughly 7/8' to lay but I went 1.25 so I can also plate my dragged flat crossmember for more of the same Very easy to drop your own mounts but I'd def trust xs5875 to do it. And at a fair prices as well... good luck
Im not b/d yet.. doing all this at the same time. Starting in a week. Im ordering my A arms, tranny x member and some other things monday. Im to impatient to wait for a severed guy out here to build me a set lol.. i can drop the mounts I was just gonna say screw it and buy a set haha. Only question is how did u gusset ur stock mounts afyer dropping them?
One of the mounts throws a 90 degree angle after its dropped. That's easy just cut a triangle out of 3/16" (two of em) and weld it up. The other side produced a rather sharp angle because it bolts to the block at an angle. Same way. Trace and cut the gusset to go on top. I wish I'd taken pics. But when you slice them, offset them an inch and re weld it will be obvious where the gusset should be.
Sounds good. I wish u had pics to haha. But im sure itll be pretty self explanatory. . I just wasnt sure if I needed to gusset the sides or just the top and bottom where its been sliced
