IMG_2676.jpg While cleaning my engine bay I noticed this red hose was just dangling. It appears to fit behind the air cleaner but don't see where it goes.

Thank you for any advice and support.

    Cheers!

It’s part of your emissions system. I believe it goes to the carbon canister.

I’ve deleted all my emissions, but still have that red hose hanging around.

Unless you’re required to have emissions testing I wouldn’t worry about it.

Disclaimer: my reply is based on a FSM for the 1979 Celica. It should be applicable....

As Fred Heath said, it is part of the emissions equipment. The canister in the pic is the charcoal canister designed to absorb gas fumes from the carb after the engine is shut off. The other end of the hose goes to the carburetor float bowl.

    Thanks for the help.
I took the air cleaner off and still didn’t see anywhere on the carburetor where that red hose goes. Also when taking off the air cleaner there is a small black hose that comes off the left side of air cleaner that also wasn’t attached to anything. Any more specific advice or pictures? Much appreciated.

We do have emissions testing here. Just past actually. Not sure I want to but if I wanted to deleted all that emissions stuff, is there a how-to you would recommend. I I’m curious how much work is involved. Did deleting your emissions equipment help the engine run any better/faster?

The hose attached to the bottom of the air cleaner is probably the vacuum hose to the hot air flapper valve in the air cleaner snorkel.

Sounds like PO of your truck started removing emissions equipment. Maybe he removed the charcoal canister return hose nipple off the carburetor?

Attached is the Federal emissions diagram from my 1979 Celica FSM which shows where the hoses go. It might be the same for trucks...

I did it when switching from factory carb to Weber 32/36.
If you’re keeping the factory carb there are so many small vacuum hoses to deal with I would be hesitant to start unhooking things. Especially where you can pass emissions now.

The Weber does give more power. The shortfall with the 20R is the two piece manifold adapter needed for the Weber to fit. Very difficult to get it leak free.

I think Pearce found a one piece that works. Maybe he’ll chime in on that.

Personally, if everything is working well I would leave it alone. The slight increase in horsepower is not worth screwing up your ability to pass emissions test. Fred

The smog legal Weber kit from Redline (k8747) has the one piece. I'm sure you can find one on ebay.

    Edit:
Or maybe not. Just did a quick check of ebay and didn't see one. But there were the one-piece 20R to Weber risers...

Took the air cleaner off fully inspected the carburetor and no dice. Still don’t see where this red hose goes. I picked through both mechanics manuals and nothing. Further more when I the air cleaner off I also saw the small hose connected to that is also not connected to anything.
    Please help!!
    Pictures if you have them.

The red hose is connected on the one end as shown in the picture on this thread.
The little hose connected to the air cleaner is just hanging off the air cleaner not connected elsewhere either

Im going to vote it either goes to the carb or to the air cleaner. Are the other 2 hoses are connected?

Where does the red hose go on the carb is the question.

    Thanks for the help

Obviously. Post more pics of your setup. You gave us one crappy shot and want an answer. We dont all know everything here and you have to remember as you have seen, these engines are 99% of the time molested

    Good luck man.

As promised here are some photos. still not 100% where the red hose goes. The only spot it looks like it would fit I show in the photos, it has threads inside the hole which seems weird. I drove with these horse disconnected and the truck started to overheat.
The last picture is from the Air Cleaner. There is a small hose that comes out of that as well and it connects to the other goldfish looking part in the air cleaner which I circled so you could se the two ends. Any whelp would be appreciated. Also, Any pictures from your own trucks to show specifically where these 2 hoses go would be much appreciated.

Thank you all for your help.

That small black one for sure a vacuum line. This engine didn't come with a recirculating pump did it?! If it did it probably got deleted and that's why it hangs around.

Thanks I’ll look into the recirculating pump situation.

Any idea for the red hose? Is the spot I’m pointing at the right spot?
