I recently put a new head, valves, and cam (all of them are oem specs) and when I did my first oil change I put in some conventional peak 10w-30 with a 1/2 qt of Lucas Zinc breakin additive. I am now getting ready to do my next oil change and I don't want to put inferior oil or filters in my truck. What I want to know is what oils and filters people like? and does anyone prefer conventional, semi-synthetic, or full synthetic and why? and lastly what weights do people prefer in these motors?

I was thinking of running 20w-50 Valvoline VR1 racing oil with a K&N oil filter or a royal Purple oil filter? What does everyone think of that combination?

I run whatevers on sale. I dont think its a good idea to switch over from conv to synthetic on an old motor unless its all be redone.

Well I think I will be going with Amsoil 10w-40. It has a high zinc content, which is good for these motors. It is the same stuff my grandpa runs in all his classic cars and he has never had any leakage issues. And for a filter I will be using a K&N one I got from Summit racing for $9.95. That should be a good combination.

I run toyota oil and filter in all 3of my trucks. If u change it @ 3000 or before there is no worries. Plus I get it cheap.

I agree, just use regular oil every 3000 miles w/ a good oil filter. (wix, toyota oem, k&n, mobil1 or which ever is readily available to you)

Or you can do a synthetic every 5000 miles. I use mobil 1 synthetic in my 3rz 4runner and 05 tundra double cab. Just because I can pick it up any time at wal-mart and its at a good price.

But, I'm using regular mobil non-synthetic oil in my turbo 2rz.

I always use Quaker State 10w-30 high mileage oil, It's the same as their regular semi but has a higher zinc content.....oh and a napa or fram filter
I always change it at 3000 miles exactly.....I'm a little OCD about my oil sticker haha

I'm running Pennzoil Platinum 10W-30 with a Purolator PUREOne PL30001 filter.
OCI's are every 5k and oil looks like a regular setup at 3k.

I use the walmart brand supertech its some badass stuff better than most of the name brands, we tested some on a industry standard oil tester, every ones mouth hit the ground when it worked just as good as royal purple. Wix filters usually.

I have only used castrol oil and fram filters in every car that I ever owned.

Which reminds me....I need to change the oil in the truck!

I ended up doing my oil with amsoil 10w-40 and a K&N oil filter. It says its good for 25,000 miles if you change your filter at regular intervals and top off the oil.

Yeah the oil is. The filter is good for about 5000 miles. Oil the oil container it says to change the filter as needed then add a quart of oil as needed.

Even my Silverado I run expensive ass Synthetic since 8k when I bought the truck and its pretty dirty at 4-5k the few times I was late changing it. I would never go over that imo. Even if the oil says it can last that long. Especially in an older truck

On sale is my favorite oil brand with nothing but wix 1515 filters. I always use rotellaT for all engine break in. As said zinc is where its at.
