I just changed my sparkplugs for the first time since I got my truck. What do the old ones have to say? Left to right: the replacements, 1, 2, 3, 4. (3 kinda broke when I was taking it out) I didn't have a torque wrench handy so I made them snug, think that'll work or should I do it proper? (somehow listening to British music changes how I type)
Other than being mismatched, normal to heavy sooting, about the right color, I'd say they have between 50-70k on 'em. The new plugs should run a lot smoother. Did you change the rotor, cap and wire too?
they say holy ****. i dont torque mine down but i have them a quarter turn past snug. works fine for me
Just did the plugs. I was thinking of heading to AutoZone and see if they have NGK plug wires for my truck. Yea/Nay on the NGKs?
those plugs say: efficient running motor- meaning that the temps and mixture were solid, or you would have varaition between the plug color and gap's. you need a new valve cover gasket- plugs are covered in oil, and it seeped into the threads. or you just may never, ever clean your motor your spark plug wires are absolutely toast. #'s 1 n 4 especially. look at the arcing (dots) on 1 and the rust on 4, was the wire even on there? doesnt look like #4 was doing its job for a while now, note the larger build up. also i hope you removed the crush washer for the #1 plug, you really dont want to leave that in there when you put the new plugs in. get the NGK blue wires, iirc they are 7mm wires, whatever get the blue ones they kick ass.
Plug #1 says Bosch Platinum on it, saw some at wally-world and they don't have washers. Plug #4, yeah I don't think the wire was on all the way. I actually had some trouble getting it to go all the way on. As for new plug wires I've been told dielectric grease can be placed in them to keep moisture off the contact, does this work? recommended?
dielectric grease (its like anti sieze) works great. it helps down the road too! good luck sir. I think my 22RE is on its way out... some mystery leak, gunna check compression.. etc
I have never heard dielectric grease described in this manner. To my knowledge it is not used as an anti sieze. It is used to seal water and grime out of the spark plug boot. http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/001202.html This is always a good idea when installing spark plugs but especialy important on 4x4's that might get into some deep water. Actually it would be a good idea to use it on just about any rubber booted electrical device I would imagine, just don't apply it directly to the contact points as the grease is actually non conductive.
