A while back i was looking at carbs and it seemed as tho the 38 was the way to go. But after a lil research this time around it looks like 32/36 will be more reliable, for my stock motor. So looking at those, I'm wondering which model is the most popular. Electric or Manual chokes? Also, about the side drafts, what model works on the 22r. and is it even worth it on a stock motor? My trucks an 83.

38 is overkill for a stock motor, its better off for the straight 6 in the FJ40s, get a 32/36, little better performance and MPGs. For the most part you are driving around only on the 32 side till you get on it and the 36 opens up also

 

yea pretty much looks like the 32/36 dgev found a new one for about $230. ordering on monday thanks for the help once i posted this one i found a bunch of related articles on here but thanks nonetheless

 

no prob, my 83 4x4 had a 38 when I got it, babying the truck I could barley get 13 mpg with that carb, threw on an Empi 32/36, Weber was on strike then, bout $100 cheaper and my MPG jumped to 18-19 around town, keep in mind lifted, 4.88s and lockers front and rear and 32" tires lol

 

yea i've got hedman 4-2-1 headers on it now, and ill be putting some 2.25" pipe to a Flowmaster super 44. With the 32/36 it'll be enuff for now. Looks like the 38 wont be needed until i decide to start getting into the engine for more performance.

 

I have a weber 33 on my 84 22R. Ive ran it for about five years. My milage is fair at almoct 22. keep in mind my truck is lifted 3 inches with 32 inch tires. I also drive 30 miles one way to work at highway speed (70-75). I run a hooker header and 2.25 exhaust.

 

cool i think i will go with 2.25" pipe as well. as for the carb, i thinkin im gonna stick with the 38, im not too worried about mpg's. Afterall, its still a four-banger. nothing i can do to it would make it near as bad as my '79 mercury capri. Thanks for all the input fellas
