Hey everyone. Sorry for not posting lately. I've been lurking though. Here's my question that I hope someone in the Pacific Northwest can help me with: I'm considering a move to Washington state and was looking up the emission requirements. I ran across this website: Washington Vehicle Emission Check Program - FAQ It only lists emissions testing for cars down to 1991. Does that mean that My 1989 Pickup doesn't need an emissions test in Washington? I doubt I would luck out that much, but thought I'd ask. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I live in vancouver, and what you found is correct. 25 years is the deadline. My 1989 4 runner is exempt
Thats awesome! Thanks for the info. How about engine swaps? I put the V-8 swap on the back burner since it was going to be a pain to do it here in Colorado. Is there vehicle inspection that the cars have to pass regularly?
yup anything over 25 years doesn't require testing. period. There are also several counties/cities that don't require emissions for any vehicle.
Lucky bastids!!!!! California was all set to have a rolling 30-year exemption and then Arnie came along and f'ed it up for us...
Part of the Seattle area and Spokane county have emissions testing. The rest of the state could give a rip less if you put a 6v71t detroit diesel in a yugo. Where are you looking to move to?
I'm hoping somewhere between Seattle and the OR border, But I'm going to hit up forclosure auctions and such for a house in my price range so its all up in the air right now. I'm looking to buy cheap (for the area) and rehab the house as I live in it. I've looked at Aberdeen and Olympia. I'm open to suggestions if anyone wants to toss out idea's of places to look at or stay away from.
I'd suggest anywhere east of the cascades not west of it like you're looking right now. What are you looking at for employment?
From what I understand (I'm probably wrong, its just my initial research), when you go east of the Cascades, you enter into a more desert-like climate the farther east you go. Here in Colo, Another desert climate, we have crappy weather for gardening which is what I really like to do in my spare time. I want someplace with: 1. Cool climate. Even though it shortens the growing seasons, I can't take the 90+ degree summers. 2: RAIN! We used to get things like snow and rain here in Colorado. Now we have forrest fire season, sprinkled with a couple snow storms and one or two biblical floods a year. Mostly I'm getting my kids and I out of a bad situation and want to make a new start in a state far far away from where we are now. "Friends always welcome, relatives by appointment." That sort of thing. As for work, my background is in security and I've worked my current job for 14 years (a monumental amount of time to stay at one site in the security industry) so I can go to almost any moderate sized place and get work. It won't pay the best, but I'll be working. I'm interested though. Why do you say to look east of the mountains? Better living? Less expensive? Less yuppies and hipsters? All valid reasons to change my plans by the way.
Less libtards, lower cost of living, hipsters are far and few between. We have a nice long growing season on the east side and while yes it does get hot it's only ohmygodkillmenow hot for about 10 days a year and you'll be hard pressed to find a business without a/c so it's livable. We don't get a whole lot of ran over here though and snow is rare these days. As much as I hate to direct anyone towards the west side if gardening is your thing and you love the rain you need to look farther north. Up towards Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden etc will have the best growing season and temperature stability.
