I was on here a year or so ago as backyardtoyota. Lost my account info. So toyotashack is back.
Looking an RE so I can build it for a turbo and a 89-95 2wd frame/ suspension so I can put my 77 hilux body on it.
AND! Is there any Toyota clubs or meets or drives around here??

Saw you got a block, that's awesome. What is your build plan for the engine and turboing it?

Well I'm trying to do this a some what if a budget or else id just buy a stroker kit from lc... which just might happen we'll see.. theres a guy on CL near me that has some eagle Hbeams I could get for fairly cheap. Then I'll need to get some pistons and arp hardware. Should I go 7.5:1 stock or the lc pro 8.0:1? I'll send it out to have it put together by a shop once I've acquired the parts for the block. First ill need to drill and tap the block for the turbo oil feed line...
I've been wanting to turbo since before my nitrous mini.
I have the following for the end product.
    Megasquirt pnp2
    Steed speed turbo manifold
RE plenum tapped for gm air temp sensor.
And doubles of everything else for hooking up MS under any hood. Igniter, distributor, wiring harness, etc.

I have a turbo but not absolutely sure on what it is. Got it with the steed speed manifold. Probably buy a different one. Not sure what tho. Any suggestions?

I'll be buying the fast ignition from lc for more fire as well. DIY said it will run with the ms. Had it in 2 trucks already.

Just a heads up on a stroker. Generally you wouldn't do a turbo build and stroke it. You want high rpms and with rpms you increase piston speed. The longer the stroke the faster the piston is traveling per rpm.

I was questioning it when I saw the turbo stroker kit on lc.. ok so that saves me money. I like it.. so whacha think I need to do? Forged?stock?lc pro? I'm not trying to be 30psi but I know boost is addictive so let's say 15 psi as a goal. What can I run the stock pistons up to ya think?

Stroking is usually a no no with turbos, I agree.

Depending on your bore, I've got some forged racetec 22re turbo pistons custom machined by 22reperformance that are too small for my engine. I'd be happy to let them go to a good place if you are interested.

15 psi isn't too bad, I've run 10/11 for quite a while and had no issues except for fuel cut off on the stock ECU. With Megasquirt, you can really push things and have some fun.

Are you going to be doing any head work?

I'll have to look into the size bore it is now. Storing motor at work for a week or so. Could i have it re sleeved to stock? Or any size if they can get re sleeved?

I was looking at DOAracing for a head. Over sized valves, port work, cam, etc.

I was at my machinist today, and the price for sleeving is pretty high.

As was mentioned recently, a stroker turbo is not a great idea. Along those lines, increasing the bore to stroke ratio works great for boosted engines.

I have been running the DOA "PWR PAK" head with oversized valves. During my rebuild I will be using the same head, but with LCE's cam and dual springs with titanium retainers. I was never that happy with the cam that DOA put in that head.

Dang well hopefully I have some sleeve left in there. It came out of an 86 believed to be a rod knock was the reason for pulling...

I think I read 80 over somewhere but that leaves nothing there for a rebuild correct?
So i guess I'll just hope for a rebuildable size of whatever those REprofromance pistons you have.

What are your pistons sized at? What size are those REPro?

I've got a lightly used set at .020 over, and for my rebuild I bought .040 over, but have to bore to .060 because of cylinder issues. So the .040 ones are unused.

.080 is just about pushing the limits to my understanding. I've been searching for an unbored block, but at this time can't find anything worthwhile.

I'll see what this block is next week.
If it's what ya need maybe we can trade something out.
I'm thinking 60 over for me.

Was just reading your newer thread.

Thanks for letting me pick your brain.

Alright. Not going .060 over. Justin danger has some .020 over 22re proformance pistons I'm gonna buy.

What rods should I get? Lce H beams are fairly cheap. .. Toyota journal should be fine right?

Not so sure if I'm gonna put my 77 on a newer frame. Body too narrow. Frame to wide. Thinking of stiffening up the 77 suspension wise and turbo the old dog. I can always pull the set up and put it in another truck if ones falls in my lap. People want money for these trucks nowadays and I'm always too late on those good deals.

Where should I post this build? 77 truck. Late model RE with a T..
