i was hoping that i wouldnt have to ask yall, thinking i might have it fixed but no. my truck runs like a farmall tractor. im not sure what it is. i got the truck running this way but thought it was gonna be an easy fix well it probably would be if i knew what the problem is. at first i thought it was the tps out of wack. it was missing the set screw. did some checking against a known good tps and it all checks out good. thought the egr might be clogged. cleaned it out didnt change anything. i replaced it today and still no change(was hoping that this would be the fix to my problem:brickknock:). replaced the plugs with some autolites no change. gonna change to some ngk plugs prob this evening but it probably wont change anything either. ive ran 2 bottle of seafoam thru it and it cleaned alot of crap out there. looked like a nice healthy burnout with all the white smoke. ran good for a little bit afterwards but once that wore off it went back to farmall status. im at a loss as far as what it could be. a good friend of mine and toyota nut isnt sure what it could be either.

any ideas that yall might have would be greatly appreciated.
im dying to be driving this everyday and now im kinda limited to small store trips:cry:

Take apart your MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) so that the little wires that the air flows past are exposed. Got to your local auto shop and buy a can of Sensor Clean.... or somthing similar. Spray the crap out of the wire to make sure they look shiny. Any dirt, or oil that can collect on the wire will be sure to give you running issues. Clean it all up, then put it back in. Should help.

Ohhhh actually...... now that i think of it.. toyota used a different style of MAF called a trap door. Right after your air filter there is a box. Take that apart and you can look inside to see a door. Push on that with your fingers. If it moves freely all is ok. But if it feels tight or sticky even the slightest bit, that will affect runability.

How old are the plug wires, cap & rotor button?? After you check the MAF sensor check those too.

hmm.... what did your old plugs look like? brown? black? cruddy?

i had a similar issue with my 4Runner after a rebuild and turned out the truck was running way too lean.....

one was black? if you let it sit there and idle, do you get a slightly richer smell (than usual) out of the exhaust? you might have a bad or leaky injector spewing too much fuel in at idle....... just something to check out. its odd you would have 3 normal looking plugs and one fouled looking one....

Sir, get some masking tape, a sharpie, and your set of tools and some patience.

Mark and label all your vacuum lines connected to your intake manifold..... Cuz you know why? Remove your intake manifold! include pictures if you do remove yours and take pictures of it's condition and state. you will see how dirty it can be in there!

don't forget the handy wire brush too

give this a shot too. Feeler gauges and some basic tools with get your pretty easily.

    I set mine to .008 and .010

btw, i found my #4 exh valve clearance to be super loose.... scared teh **** outta me.

I'm not sure what i really did, but i had really bad idle. but when i pulled my manifold plenum off, I also sprayed my coldstart injector and everything else with carb cleaner.

And this was because my oil filter was stuck.... i eventually got to remove it with a huge-@55 plier and when i did this, my injectors were loose... so i put on new o-rings and before i did that, i sprayed my injectors inside and out with carb cleaner. and sprayed carb cleaner into the injector's port....

and idk what else i did but my truck idles sooo smooth now... before that, my whole truck shakes at idle and you can see the antennae move.....

oh yeah, i only had 2qts or less of oil in truck.... o_O :runaway::runaway:

    so i now have 4.5

alright i got it back together but now it wont start. thought the battery was dead so i put it on the charger and nothing. swapped in a known good battery out of my other truck and nothing. all the lights in the cab and dash come on but when i hit the key the gear light goes out, the radio and clock go off and i hear a clicking coming from the glove box area but no turning over.

any ideas?? i figure its something stupid but cant put a finger on it
