so i was really wanting to find out how to get m truck to go faster in the top end because driving down the highway at 55 it sounds like its topping out. so i figured maybe just get a mustang rear end with the disk brakes and then a locker but IDK.

I might need some more info on the truck.
    what rear end, what transmission.
Toyota pickups should do FINE on the highway.

    unless you have shorter tires.

yeah theres not much grunt to the 22re motors. they just get by and get the truck where it needs to go. If its a manual, installing the ford 8.8 is going be worst because the gears in the ford is 3.73 and the toyota 4speed rear is 3.08. But the benefit of the ford rear is acceleration. IF your on a budget start with making the engine breath more, (filter and exhaust)

Ford 8.8s came with 2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10s all from the factory. (might even be more) limited slips and open diffs.

Nothing wrong with a toyota axle. Which one do you have, G code? F? Ratio?

A stock 22RE with a stick should hit a fair high end speed.
When mine was stock it could hit 100 easily!
    Much more now days!!

generally most of the manual 22RE's here can easily top out at 110.
I can gun it and get to 105mph and just stay there and not go any further.

Anyway, with an exhaust, the 22RE itself does sound like it wants to blow.
mine used to sound like that
until i found the rev limit lol

Yea more air and exhaust flow. Bigger intake piping. Maybe an air flow meter from a supra(1983?). I need to be told again. What is the shift point with the 22re where power peaks? I know it is under where the redline is...

A header and cam helps the top end of a 22RE a lot.
