Sway bars are made of all kinda stuff.. From Standard cold rolled DOM tubing, to solid round stock that's been heat treated and stress relieved.. What I decided to do is different though...

I happened to have a friend that had a sway bar for a 96 Camaro SS. it was a few inches too wide, but was MUCH larger than my stock one and I was wondering what it would do for me performance wise. I was also hanging out at Cortex Precision engineering in Sonoma At Sonoma Raceway and nticed one of the mustangs they were working on had a DOM tube sway bar with flat plate arms welded on.. I got to thinking.. What if I just shortened the arms where I needed them, weld them back on in the positions I need them, brace it so they are relieved? I bet I could make my own! So this is what I came up with.. 96 Camaro SS Sway bar for my 89-95 Toyota 2wd. The stiffest thing you're ever gonna find for these trucks, I promise.

Top - Stock 22mm (solid?) Toyota sway bar
Bottom - 96 Camaro SS 30mm x 0.195" sway bar. <--This thing is VERY stiff and brings a whole new level of handling to the truck!

Hope this motivates some of you that have a little ingenuity and ability to go out and actually challenge the norm, and people that say it can't be done..

A sway bar of any type has a lot of force ,stress applied to it when corning, any welding on one should be Tig welded & only by a very good welder!!
The bars I run are chrome-molly spring steel!!

I second that.. However it is possible to successfully weld a sway bar to make whatever you need. :)

PM me, where about do you stay?? I'm in town. Maybe we can bounce ideas back and forth. LMK.

sometimes too stiff can be a problem, for example.....viagra, if remains errect for longer than 4 hrs consult a physician. and sometimes u just gotta spend the money for quality. its not worth cutting corners. sure there can be a few cheap tricks here n there but to the major important stuff that matters, its best just to pay up. IMHO

Yes,the last thing you want to happen is to slam your ride into a conner & have a suspension part fail!!
It just may be the last thing !!!!!
