I have located a w58 tranny and have a few questions. If I understand this right, I will use the w58 tranny and the bellhousing from my 87 4 speed. Is this correct? Is there anything else i will need? Also, if I remember right, the shifter will be about 3" further back. Is this right? Is there any way to swap shifters to keep from having to cut on the floor board?

    Thanks
    Trey

Oh, and the w58 is from a 7m. I tried the search feature before posting, but the forums will not search for any words with 3 or less letters or numbers. If I need another bell housing, what vehicles do I need to be looking for? what about clutches? I'm going to replace the clutch, so wich clutch should I use? For which tranny? I have a 261 cam, ported intake, header and free flowing exh, and a weber 32/36 with 2wd drivetrain.

    Thanks

IIRC Most of our (manual) trucks came with the w5x trans so unless youre doing an auto to manual swap this should be about as esay as swapping belhousings and putting it back on. even the r154 from the supra just requires a bellhousing swap.... now if youre going from auto to manual .... pedals clutch master and slave ... hard lines clutch flywheel assoc bolts and driveshaft cause I think its longer than the auto...

All "W" series transmissions will interchange with each other. They are all built almost identically interior wise (minus gear ratio) only difference is length. What I would first do is check your bellhousing pattern on your w40-45 whatever you got. Its a 4speed so its either one of those or a g40. Then look at the W58. You'd be surprised at how identical they are. You shouldn't even have to swap bellhousings, but if you need to, your w-40-45 bell will bolt directly onto the w58. Can't remember where the slave is on the w58. If I remember correctly its on the left side, so yea you probably gotta swap bells
