Alright guys I need some help. I wanna swap out the w 55 in my 89 for asupra w 58.
I tried searching for some info but didn't come up with much ?
I plan on getting a custom drive shaft made,

So my question is has anybody done this before? And is there a write up on how to do this? As well as what do I need to do this swap?

So far I know I need:
    W58 trans
custom driveshaft to mate the w58 to 7.5 axle
    And what else?

    Appreciate the help guys.

No custom driveshaft needed your stock one will work. All you have to do is swap bellhousings and go with it. I've put a 82 celica w58 in a 3rz T-100 that had a w59 and i had to change the speed sensor out of the rear case but it was a direct swap. I've also swapped out a 4 speed for a w58 in a 84-88 truck. You may have some shifter location issues but not a big deal.

I did the swap in my 92. Swap the bellhousing, speed sensor and reverse switch and done. While your in there a lightweight flywheel would be good.

Okay so let me get this straight.
I can reuse my drive shaft without modification ?
I also Already have a lightweight flywheel
Is the 22re flywheel the same diameter as the w58 clutch?
And does the w58 mount to the stock w55 transmission mount without trouble?

    Thanks again guys

I'm using a LCE flywheel and a clutch from my w56 in my w58. Everthing is the same but the bellhousing. The only thing I wound suggest is a new rear tailshaft seal on the back of the trans. Cheap peace of mind.

the clutch and flywheel are 1/8" diameter different and a supra pressure plate won't bolt to a truck flywheel BUT the truck clutch will slip onto the supra transmission input shaft.

    in other words,,,

Use the same clutch you've been using.

the shifter housing is different and won't accept a truck shifter. you can remove the tail housing and swap the linkage piece inside if you want to retain your stock shifter and location. Also, it's likely that the drive for the speedo is a different ratio and while the tail housing is off you can swap the speedo drive gear.

Use the later model trans for the beefier internals. You can find more info online.

    Hope this helps,

    Victor

Shouldn't be a problem once you swap your bellhousing.

Just thought of another question. Can the w58 bolt to the w55 trans mount?

If you have a manual truck, you can use your same clutch, flywheel, clutch setup (including all cylinders), and you might as well get your clutch job done if it needs one.

guys with the manual to W58 swap and switched the speedometer gears, did it keep your speedometer correct?

8% taller 1-2-3 and 5th so it is a pretty even split between the first 4 gears and a bigger overdrive.
