I have a w56 in my 67 stout...but its behind a 20r. Used the master cylinder from a 20r pickup and slave that was on the tranny. One custom line and wham-o it was done.

I just recently replaced my 4 speed(made noise) on the 8R with a w50 steel case, i used the 8R flywheel(same as 20r), the pilot bearing is the same, used clutch fork/slave from w50, must use 20r clutch to work with w50 front spline shaft, bell housing mates but you have to drill out the two lower so the dowel pins will insert, eventually you'll have to cut the tranny tunnel and custom fab the tranny mounts further back, the e brakes will still work but only have little travel enough to lock the rear, driveline will remain the same length but you will need to replace the driveline yoke with the w50 yoke, thats pretty much all to it.

Difficulty is 3 out 5 in opinion.

Note that a w55 aluminum case will be the same process but may differ in tranny crossmember mounting point.

Difficulty is 3 out 5 in opinion.
