I want to paint my valve cover but I dont know how to take it off and is while taking it off dangerous like dirt getting in the motor?
Take off the air cleaner if yuu have the stock one, then remove the four nuts on each corner and remove the throttle cable and bracket on the cover.
it's easy and relatively safe. I just had mine off for a bit to re-seal it and adjust the valve clearance... Just make sure you get a new valve cover gasket kit and the RED RTV silicone to seal it back up afterwards. You're going to want to take some time to clean the contact surfaces of both the valve cover and engine. (brake cleaner/laquer thinner.. something that dries fast) - and make sure that you take out the old half-moon seals from the front and back of the engine. You'll find that the valve cover kit (napa, orielly, autozone) includes a new gasket loop, 2 half moons and make sure you get a kit that includes grommets. Grommets are the little washer-like things that go under the bolts you'll be undoing to get the valve cover off in the first place. When using the RTV just make sure you apply it inside the grooves of the valve cover (before putting the gasket in there), on the surface of the engine, in the half-moon "holes" and ESPECIALLY on the top of the rubber half moons (the flat part). It sounds complicated, but it's not.. just make sure you get every surface sealed. Hand-tighten (or lightly tighten with wrench) and then the next day (after it's had time to cure a little) put another turn or two on the bolts. Snug.. not tight.
I painted it red but i mest up cuz i didnt sand it i just wanted to paint it nd also while i was puttin it back on i scratched da back but its not dat noticeable and its not da best since idk how to paint as much but i like how it came out
