I did a valve adjustment this evening and wanted to change out the valve cover gasket while I was at it. But for some reason the Fel-Pro gasket I got from Kragen didn't match up to my valve cover.

If you look at my cover it's not a simple rectangle with bends at each corner. There are these "ridges" on each side. The gasket I was given, and what's supposedly being called for in their system, is similar to the gasket I have under my 20R cover.

Can someone with a 22R tell me what their cover looks like?

    Thanks.

    Note: I've got a 82', 22R (dual chain) motor.

The new replacement gasket is soft and has to be set into the groove of your valve cover. Your old gasket has been in there for a while and has hardened. So even though it looks different, that Felpro gasket will do the job.

some valve cover gaskets are formed, and some ar not.

but any year NON formed valve cover gasket will work on any year 2xr (75-95)

newer formed gaskets (84+) sometimes have issues with older covers and vice versa.

but either way its rubber, if you can get it to seat correctly a lil time and it will form itself.

    it's kinda like girls

some are fit for some years, some aren't for those years. but if it's one that can be suitable, just let it settle in, and eventually you'll regret it after it's stayed on for a while.

    lol

You guys were absolutely right. :) Pulled the old one off, which was hard as a rock, and fitted the new one in. It was such a breeze that I couldn't help but feel a little stupid.

But, hey, at least now I know.

Thanks for your patience and your answers. Even the ones totally off the wall. :D
