When in neutral with my foot on the brake my truck idles high and low. It also does this when in gear with clutch engaged and foot on the brake. If I turn the ac on high, it stops. Any suggestions? Also I just put a new gas cap on and before, my truck idled high, now it's as if the truck is suffocating. It doesn't die out. I actually drive it daily. I'm just curious as to whether the new cap has a tighter seal and no vent holes or very small vent holes. Although, I don't get any pressure release when I remove the cap. Any info is surely appreciated. By the way, the high and low idle with my foot on the brake existed before the suffocating issue. Also note that while in neutral or the clutch pressed, it does not idle high or low, it only occurs at the two times noted above.

sounds like a surging idle. if you search on youtube there is a video on how to correct this on a 22re. and i think it did have something to do with a vacuum leak

Sounds like the vacuum line for the booster is leaking or the booster itself is leaking.

I had a similiar issue thought it was vacuum lines and everything else to include timing....i got rid of the issue....two of the prongs in the ignition coil clip were in the clip but not pushed in far enough to actually snap onto the other piece....meaning it lookes fine and the clip was perfect except two wires would wiggle loose while driving and cause a surging idle every once in a while....hope this helps....
