So i have shaved doors obviously, I'm currently running some Autoloc 30lb solenoids, went to get out of my truck yesterday, hit the button and door opened but solenoid never released, no problem i said, sometimes the cable gets caught up when i roll down the window and open the door...it was not that easy this time..finally got a chance to take it out of the door and it was stuck pretty good took some pliers to get it unstuck..you can feel all the dirt and grit when you play with it... so my question is, is there anyway to take these things apart and clean it out? i looked but there are no screws whatsoever to take it apart...I cleaned the part that shows as best as i could but its not helping much, still getting stuck..i sprayed some oil on it, not much luck either...
spray it with some PB blaster if that dont work buy a new one saves you if it gets stuck a few days later out of town or something
i sprayed it with some WD-40, then smoothed down the shaft that comes out with some emery cloth, then i sprayed it with some motorcycle chain lube...isn't PB blaster the same thing as WD? oh ive been locked out plenty of times lol..no one can get in my truck faster than me! i just hate looking like im breaking into it when that happens..haha
Sounds like there's no rubber boot protecting the unit, get some or take a bicycle tube & make some to keep the solenoids clean & dry!
I'm sorry guys but excuse me for not knowing anything but it appears that you are both showing different parts of the system. This appears to be the Part that releases the door Latch and this appears to be the part that after the latch is released Pops the door open
no dog, the second kit is the part that pops the lock, both kits look like they come with the sping thing that you drill into the door frame that pops the door open when the latch is popped. I dont like those spings cause they bend your door over time, most people i know with poppers just grab the top of the door and pull then hit the popper at the same time.
Both kits are some what alike, the main thing here is that the Spal solenoids have a rubber boot that protects the moving shaft. No if any water /moister gets in! There is no door popper (spring loaded pusher ) with either kit. The thing that looks like one in the Spal kit ,is a hidden safety switch for opening the drivers door. Its electrical so won't help if dead battery. You have to,or should have a way to get 12 volts to the system if that should happen!
i shoullda went with the spal, never had a problem before with the solenoid sticking..but i'm gonna have a bunch of holes in my door from where it was mounted..i'm sure the spal will not line up with my autoloc holes guess you can't take it apart just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy new solenoids.....or just keep putting my hand inside the door to pull on the cable to release it..
You should be able to just change out the solenoids. If the holes are off ,make a mounting plate that will use the existing holes. I welded nuts to the solenoid bracket ( keep it cool with a wet rag or air), to ease the installation.
yeah i know i can just switch out the solenoid, wish i had a welder and knew how to weld, i know what you mean about those nuts, they can be a PITA! lol
well 2 years later.....another stuck autoloc solenoid!!! So tired of this..I wish I could clean these up, besides being dirty and sticking they work great..I would def make a boot from here on out, I may just buy the Spal units...but they are pricey! $50 each, I can get new doors from the junkyard for $50 each! lol
