Wassup TMers, Thinking of turbocharging my 85 SR5 and was wondering what are my options for manifolds. I've seen LCEs and that other cast one but is that the only option? Also for fuel tuning what are most of the turbo charged guys using? Do I have to go stand alone or is there a piggy back that'll work alright? The goal is a nice 13 second street truck keeping all the goodies. AC, Power steering..... You know!! Thanks
There aren't any "good" options (that I've found) for a piggy back setup. The cheapest and most reliable option appears to be the Mega Squirt EMS. It allows you to dump all of the factory problems and start over from scratch. It is the way I will go when the time comes. It looks as though the total cost for me will be around $600 or so. That includes the MS version 2, intake air temp sensor, and a wideband O2 sensor.
600 is no that bad. Whats the reason for a wideband cause I actually have the Zeitronix wideband on my other car and was gonna borrow so I can tune? I'll read into it when I get some free time. Thanks
Tuning is the biggest thing you'd use the wideband for. The cool thing about MS is that in their support forum, you can download tunes from others that have done the same or close to the same mods. It gives a great starting point... I believe that one of the MS's will actually take the wideband signal rather than converting it back into a narrowband signal. Check out their site, its a bit overwhelming at first, but you'll get it.

If your serious about Turboing, I would join 22RTE-Trucks.com forum. They are very helpful and have all the knowledge youll need to be successful on your build. If you dont set your goals too high on HP youll be Ok , 22r's dont like too much boost, the head just doesnt have enough Bolts holding it down. They are prone to blow head gaskets. I dont care what anyone else tells you once you hit 160 to 170 HP your gonna have a truck that is very tempermental. If HP is your goal an engine swap is your best choice. Dont get me wrong 160 HP in these little trucks is a real kick in the pants ,but dont expect much more than that without spending some greenbacks . If you can find a 22rte engine controller , wiring harness, Injectors, and manifold you can get 160 HP without the stand alone system. Megasuirt is relatively inexpensive as far as stand alone goes, but the learning curve and tuning is not so simple. Been their done that. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck !
