So, the other day I let the GF take my truck to work. I was doing a tune-up and brake job on her car, and she had to go to work. She comes home later that evening and flies into the house saying my truck won't stay running, sounds like metal grinding, and it's smoking. Long story short, she blew the water pump, and she continued to drive it home and the shaft for the water pump actually blew apart. I'm pretty sure it overheated...... So, i go out today and put a new pump on it today and fill it back up with antifreeze.... So, i start it up and it sounds like a friggin' helicopter (Coming Out Of The Exhaust). The motor sounds fine, but.... the exhaust sounds like a helicopter, any ideas? Burnt valve? P.S. I changed the plugs, wires, and Distributor Cap....
Could be a head gasket allowing compression to escape. Could be the exhaust manifold gasket blew out if it got too hot. You may have even cracked the head. A compression test is your best next test. Pretty simple to do. Screw the tool into the spark plug hole and crank it over. Should hit up around 150-175lbs. And it should hold that for at least a couple seconds. If one leaks you found your problem. Luckily these are simple motors to fix. Next time you should have AAA. Tell your girl if something seems wrong to just call the tow truck. In the long run getting it home isn't always the best. Hope you figure it out buddy
I would deff at to pull the valve cover and check the adjustments. If it sucked a valve getting to hot the adjustment won't be right. I heard the leaf fall.
