I wrecked my yota bending the roof pillars and the front and thought about welding but thats just way too much work. i was wondering exactly how do you do a cab swap? and what are some tips on doing it thanks guys for the input just trying to get back in the road. Oh and a little more info its a 1987 Pickup Standard cab 2WD Automatick on the coulumn thanks
best advice i can give you is look for roughly the same year cab and one that carried the auto (to make it easier) or just swap your steering column over from your cab and swap it out. cab is held in by 6 body mounts. 4 under the cab, and the 2 up front under the core support. disconnect all your cables, connections, and otherwise anything attached to the cab and take it off. its a process but take your time and you should be fine. if you have any more questions or run into issues, just ask on here
theres 6 bolts holding the cab to frame (14mm) then the brake and clutch master unbolt, and bend the lines to push em out of the way (dont kink). dont forget the fuel lines/ brake lines/speedo cable that are attached to the underside of the cab. undo the grounds unbolt the radiator (note: its a ton easier if you remove the rad from the truck, then you dont have to worry about F'n it up on the install). its really the same amount of work as a eng swap first time took me 2 weekends by my self. 2nd i did it in a weekend by my self, and the 3rd time i managed it in under 2 days. postive side of it is, now you get to clean the top of the tranny the easy way
that and spray some coating or good chassis paint on the frame rails to prevent rust or remove it for that matter
ok and is thier anything that i should do about the wiring because alot of people say you have to disconnect the wire harnesses and stuff
in a nut shell you need to disconnect every thing that ties the cab to the motor/chassis. so you either unbolt it from the cab, plop it on top of the motor, do the swap, then stuff your wires back in. or you un hook the cab from the motor/chassis and use the wires from the new cab. if its pretty much the same truck and you check first, all the plugs might be the same, so its all about marking stuff then.
alright one more question found a 2wd 22r standard cab parts truck but its not an automatic its a stick so would this still be difficult to do a cab swap becuz mine is an automatic
Another good tip is to take a lot of pictures that you can refer back to while you are putting things back together.
