Aiight guys, Im starting to get parts together for my motor swap. I am curious about transmission differences. My truck is a 94 22re 2wd. I want to swap in a R150 trans from same generation V6 2wd truck. Are the trans mount locations, shifter location and drive shaft length the same?

i dont think you can put a rXXX trans series to a 22r/e engine. I would get a w58, shifts nicer then the R trans, lighter and cheaper. Plus i know they bolt up :)

Yeah Im getting rid of the 22re, Therefore my reasoning for the new trans, I was wondering if everything else stays the same or if I need a new driveshaft, crossmember etc. Long story short, Im swapping in a GM 3800 Series II motor in my truck, The R150 trans with a AX15 input shaft and a 95-99 Dakota 2.5 bellhousing "should" bolt up fine. I know 4wd drive guys have done it, Im just going on a hope that the 2wd R series trannys are the same as far as how the bellhousing bolts up and input shaft etc. I havent seen much for 2wd swaps. Just trying to see if its better to do it this way. Or if I have to redo everything, Just stick with the GM T-5 thats with the motor and make a tranny mount, get a driveshaft made etc.

Does that share the same size input shaft as the AX-15 trans? Im assuming so but the one instructions I found was using a R150. I know you gotta swap input shafts cause the AX-15 in a hair longer. And what about tranny mount, driveshaft and, shifter location?

Plus a r154 would be alot more $$ and harder to come by with the Supra guys all over them

Edit: Actually found some cheap locally, It asks me ABS or non ABS though?
Also it says the R154 Input shaft is longer, therefor would I even need to swap input shafts?

Use t5 stuff out of a camaro. If you can swap in a 90* v6, you can make a trans mount and have a driveshaft made.

Making it way more complicated than it has to be.

Youll need a driveshaft and a mount for either transmission. Its going to be MUCH cheaper going with a t5.

Thats why I was asking, trying to save as much $$ as possible and didnt know if the tranny mount and driveshaft was the same. If I use the T5 I def will have to redo my tranny tunnel (again) and crossmember (again) lol. I was just hoping there was a simpler solution, If the wiring mounts and exhaust werent enough. Driveshafts arent cheap

It's possible to fab your own drive shaft. Just remember to keep the phazing correct. I have spliced a couple of shats my self. (best one yet, Suzuki Sami slid into GM for a 321 Odd fire/th250 into my Sammy.) Had to make shimms to fit between both shafts and did plug welds to grab the cut end of the sammy shaft inside the GM shaft, then I did a careful weld around the open end of the GM shaft to seal it all up. Afterwords I used 4 hose clamps to balance the unit for testing. Drive shaft shop only charged $20 to balance profesionaly for me.

Yeah lemme know, I plan on yankin the motor for a 5 speed car, So if I have to snatch tranny too and fab tranny mount etc I will.

    Heres one with the T5

And heres a 4wd using all Toyota drivetrain which is what got me thinking, Later on in the post and another guy both said using the Dakota 2.5 bellhousing eliminates the need for the adapter plate

-Rxxx transmission will need a different driveshaft than the Wxx, at least in cressidas/supras (w58/r154) it does.
    -mount should be the same.
-shifter location is adjustable just like the Wxx boxes.

It's a trade off as far as difficulty and money...camaro T-5 and 3800 will bolt together like it's meant to be, clutches and other parts can be had for it easily. sure you'll have to do the trans mount and shifter hole but it's trans/bellhousing headache that can be trouble getting replacement parts for down the line that you won't have to deal with. doing the toyota gearbox you'll have to use a mish-mash of parts that *should* work and if it does, will be harder to get replacement parts if it does break because you have to find bits from 3 different cars to make it fit. it'd be one thing if it were a UZ swap and they didn't make a manual bellhousing for it... why work harder than you have to.
