4 speed = W42 (same one I sold to Raff) Yes, it came out of my '82...

    5-speed = W52 (steel center casing).

The original trans that came out of my 82 truck had a cast-in bellhousing and was all cast iron.

It seriously almost killed me when I pulled i.

W42- 98% sure thats the same sucker. What are you going to do/wondering with that trans Opus?

I just bought an 84 2wd rig, missing the transmission. I need a 5 spd to stick in there. Local guy gave me this and told me to give it a try.

That is a steel center casing with aluminum on either end....no?

I'm about 98% sure it's a 4 speed looking at the center and tail section. Doesn't look like it's holding a 5th set of gears by the looks of it...

Try sticking the ****er in and shift thru the gears...

or just mark the tail shaft and input shaft with a white pen, both at 12 oclock. Put it in 5th ( if it has one ) and spin the input one time and look at the marking on the tail shaft, it should be facing at 9 or 3 oclock depending on which way you spun the input ( meaning it didnt make one full revolution. ) If it goes past 12 in the direction you are spinning the input you are in 3rd noth 5th. good luck.

cool thing is im working on figuring out if that bell housing fits the w58 body, if it does you saved yourself a PITA trying to find a bell housing to fit a w58 and can now easily swap the trans from a supra into that truck.

so a semi reliable source told me that the bell housing you have will indeed fit the w58 transmission, so go on craigslist and search for one. It will basically turn your truck into a light weight 22R or 20R supra..which sounds pretty fun.

    Cast iron center....

its a four speed. Its identical to mine. The price was right so just run it.

And I have, and will continue to reccomend the w58 box (for a 5 speed).

Sorry to say but you were all wrong. It is a 5 spd and I cant say it was a lot of fun putting it in. Maybe I am just getting old.......
