There is a broken or worn seal or barring that is making my driveshaft wobble right at the tranny. I thought it was a bad uv-joint but when I went under there both joints were fine but on the end going into the tranny is a lot of play. I attached a picture to show exactly where I feel all the wiggle room. For the longest time I had been trying to figure out why I was getting such vibration driving. another thing, could I have caused this or is it a mix between being 170k old? Im really not abusive to my truck and take it easy on her. But Im constantly throwing it back and forth in Drive and Neutral. I dont do it hard, only to coast to red lights and things like that. Im just so used to driving stick, it doesn't make sense to me to remain engaged when im slowing down or standing still. Like I said though, I dont drop it in "Drive" hard, but maybe this simple constant action is adding extra stress it wasn't designed for..
Im not sure, someone who knows more than me will probably chime in, but i dont see any picture either.
Well at least u found that elusive problem I don't think it's your driving style it maybe the mileage but I still consider 170k low for these trucks you may have a bad output bearing causing some play in the driveshaft input shaft it's not to much of a hassle to get to it maybe stubborn coming out tho What trans do you have
hmmmmm really sounds like just a bad tranny mount. when you inspected the Ujoints how did the spline look? were they very straight with minimal wear marks?? also if it was a bad output bearing I'm thinking you would hear ALOT of noise with the trans engaged. if you have one of those IR temp guns then you could probe that area and see very high temps if it were a bad bearing. based off your trouble description it sounds like a bad tranny mount, dose the motor shift a lot when you put it in drive?
If you can get under the truck should be able to remove the rear counter bearing while the tail cone of the trans is still connected to the trans if not the tail cone can be removed and the then you can remove the counter bearing via a press out or a nice size screw driver ...give it plenty of wheel bearing grease upon reassembly ....
oh woops lol here now it's attached. I couldnt find an exact name for the trans. but it's a Rwd 1988 22RE Yeh I called a mechanic today he said its a bushing or something. Said the same thing, not hard to get to just have to get the old one out and a new one pressed in. I would rather do this myself but maaannn... I dont want to get stumped trying to get the old one out and forcing the new one in. Seams like such a simple thing to do. There's gotta be an advanced auto tool i can borrow to yank that bitch out.
Yeh it was broken, and shook BAD but I already replaced it. The issue is still there in the I think taking off the cone part was what my mechanic was talking about! He's a brazilian guy, sooooo tough to understand that dude lol but he's good. He meant I could do it myself and just bring the cone part to him and he'll press the new bushing inside! perfect! I dont get any other sign, like no scraping, loud noises or anything like that. I just get a lot of wobbling from the middle of my car.
no I meant to reply to Lowtide, the tranny mount was bad but I had already replaced it. It still wobbles, It's very well the reason my old tranny mount broke in the first place.
