Hi folks i want to introduce myself and my Toyota Hilux 2.4 D from 1990. almost 20 years ago i bought this car brandnew, you did not see many of PickUps at that time in germany...now the machine has done 330.000 km and is still runnin fine... time to think about some working around the car, because i wish to hold it for another at least 100.000 km... soon i will show you some pictures of my green old Hilux.. best regards from germany Reinhard
Pics of my PickUp Hi thx for your welcome...!! here are some pictures of my favored old car It is a Diesel with 61 KW thx for lookin and cu Reinhard
man for a work truck that old, man its CLEAN! i deffently see you geting 100km + out of it. I like ur rail guards too. Whats the plan you have for it?
Have to do´s and want to do´s @ Frinzo The wooden rail guards are as old as the toy....20 years The most important thing i have to do is checkin´and renewing the breaks..! After all the years of working with that very useful car, thousand of tons of material, sand and stones, i want to get the Pickup a little bit higher again and i ask myself how to do it... i have googled many sites, but main thing there is 4WD and 4" lift up kit... my toy is not a 4WD!! does anybody know how to get my car a little bit higher again? At the same time i will refresh the car from down under... In UK i found "Milners" and they talk about only doin a 1.5" bodylift according to the catalogue... ""If your wanting to fit bigger tyres or just have a bit more height and keep standard tyres then yea its worth while. It goes between the chasis and the body to lift the body a bit more from the chasis."" that´s what i found in a british forum..! You guys in the US do have a lot of experience with that kind a stuff.. best regards Reinhard
Stout? Actually i do not know what is a Stout? Is it a special Toyota automobile from the 70ies or has it to do with the engine inside? Reinhard
It is sort of the pre-Hilux pickup. While the Hilux was not really a direct successor, the Hilux replaced the Stout in the US market. Think 1960's... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Stout I have no idea if they had the Stout in *any* of the European markets.
Atoyo T you can flip the axle and leafs to place the axle under the leafs, to give it about 3" of lift and clearance in the rear, which should be plenty for working. Up front, you can get Ball Joint Spacers which lift up the front *about* 1" or 1.5". Then you can "crank" up the torsion bars a little bit to raise it about an inch and still have some good suspension travel. a completely stock Toyota 2wd pickup with the bodylift definitely allows you to run some larger tires (if you plan to) and lifts up the truck some more. Totally safe as long you do it and torque correctly. Those are just some examples!
Great bed! Notice how it has no wheel well flare like the 2wd front fenders here. Plus the rolled lip... Nice! Also noticed a single din radio hole with a delete plate... 300+ km with no tunes! It sounds like your springs are worn out... Get new leaf springs and torsion bars if you add longer shackles in the back and turn up your torsion bars you can "lift" the truck I would stay away from a body lift if your hauling much
Reinhard That thing is neat.I like the lights in the roll pan under the tailgate.DO most work trucks have the rack on the bed to protect the back window?I sure would love to find one for my stout.
@goingnowherefast thx for your post yes indeed, actually our toyo trucks have that rack on the bed. In 1965 they did not care much about safety..
@ MTB68TOY laughing, you noticed that i do not have any radio on my car... Actually i did have one and it sound great, but since almost ten years i drive without any music... i watch carefully the traffic and hear the sound of the car...)
that is a cool little toyota. the spring over conversion is a good idea, but you need somebody with really good grinding and welding skills. cranking the torsion bars is also a good idea. i don't know about a body lift. a body lift is pretty much putting a spacer that's between 1 and like 3 or 4 inches(in extreme cases) between your body and your frame at your body-frame mounting points. i don't like them much because they create a big space between your body and frame and expose a lot of stuff to the eyes. just not a real "clean" look to me. shackles in the rear will also give you some lift. all the rear end lift stuff is fairly easy though. if you want to spend the money, fabtechmotorsports.com had a lift for this body style 2wd pickup. or, maybe there is a guy on here that just bought a yota with a lift kit, but is removing it. maybe get with him about buyin it from him or something.
Welcome to TM. Be very careful about modifying your truck in Deutchland. Ive heard there annual safety inspection is crazy stringent. They may not like body lifts/rewelded spring perches, ect. Only heard, I never registered a car there.
you can get what is considered an "Add a leaf" for the rear springs. its basically an extra leaf to the rear spring pack to gain a little bit of height and spring rate back. and like mentioned, adjust the front up. it should bring the truck back to somewhere near its orignal state of height. and should be fine on a safety inspection since its add on equipment or adjustments, and all factory parts are retained.
