i am having trouble busting the lock nuts and wanted to know what would happen if i cut it out and replaced it. will the key be a prob or will it stay in its location?

 

if yur gonna cut them you need to suspend the truck and make sure the front suspension is resting on the bump stops because once you cut those bolts out the torsion bars will be free and if you were to have the truck on the ground under its own weight it would fall

 

so basicaly jack up the lower a arm and smash it up and support it so it rises and then cut them. i think i understand thanks for the help i have one shot it is my daily driver

 

Do you have a friend with a lift? My friend and I just went at it with two wrenches and broke 'em free after 5 minutes. Basically yank on it a few times after throwing some WD40 or something on there for a while, then lay on it and see if it breaks free. You can also put a wrench on the top bolt and a socket n the bottom and just pull that way. It will start to thread up, and could break the bolts loose. Either way it'll start things moving.

 

oh trust me i hve sprayed th hell out of it and used a socket on it and the socket came off and i sliced my forearm wide open and the nut didnt brake free. i am at my wits end

I would take a small propane torch and heat them up then try turning them. Thats what we had to do to my tie rods when we installed the drop spindles. Worked great!

 

Did you try a 2' pipe on the wrench?

I just don't like the thought of what happens when it's cut....

i will try one more time. i have to wait till later in the week to hit it again. will pick up some more liquid wrench and a small torch. i am more determaned than ever now. thanks for all the help

 

if u cut the bolt be careful. it becomes a projectile wen it finally busts

yup thats what I had to do to crank my torsions. Bolts were on too tight so used a propane torch.

Thats why there all here. I have to agree that there is alot of safty awarness on this thread witch is good cause sometimes we are so excited to rush into something and we forget the dangers that can happen. So props to all. But onto the torsion thing i used alot of wd40 and other stuff and 2 wrenches one hooked to another and yanked like crazy. Good luck man

I had.... a open box wrench end on the lock nut and gave it everything. with me "standing" on the frame rail... that's lying under the truck and leg on teh frame... "total safety hazard!"


And then once that was done...
I had the wrench on the regular nut and a ratchet on the bolt.
