alright.. i've been thinking about doing a low boost setup on my 22r-e .. not really sure where to read up on something like this.. if it were a Honda i wouldnt be asking questions right now.. but i'm new to the 22r-e and could use a little direction.. i have a Garrett TB0359 turbo from a Mercedes.. its A/R is .48 which i think would be perfect for the 22r.. but i need some second opinions

you can supercharge a 22r with a carbeurator. A roots style supercharger is probably the most efficient way to apply boost to a carbeurator.

Well a turbo is more effiicent for a fuel injected engine than a engine with a carb. Both have their advantages and disadvantages check out LcEngineering's website and it will explain everything.

So far I have been happy with the results with my supercharged/carbed 22r, as CnD said, they both have advantages and disadvantages, Camden builds a supercharger for either carb or EFI for the 22r, turbo kits are also available, the turbo's are more suited for the EFI engines as a blow-thru system, but can be made to work with carbs.
Keep the boost conservative, run good fuel and a good ignition and the engine will thank you. Increase the boost, it'll gain some power and you'll get good at doing head gaskets :D been there done that as they say but I had to try. Have fun.

Wasn't my intention to jack your thread and turn it into a supercharger topic, I was just offering a little direction and a second opinion as to whats available for the 22r. thinking about boost to me comes in 2 forms, belt driven S/C off the crank and exhaust driven turbo.
Used turbos are a dime a dozen wether from a Mercedes or a Kenworth truck, the hard part is adapting it via all the plumbing, exhaust, fuel managment, ect. to fit your application, thats why some of us suggested such outfits as LC Engineering for a complete kit tailored to your application to try and make things easier instead of getting a used turbo off who knows what and wanting to know how to make it work. Good luck.

You should check out LC's FAQ's page and all of that. They explain stuff very well on their site.

every order there comes with a free spoon to dig out your kidney to sell to pay for their stuff :p

im also a member of the supercharger crowd, not here to talk about em cept that its not much faster then a sidedraft carb.

but these engs wernt made to handle a lot of boost (stock 22ret was only 7psi) nor were they made to rev or make tremendous amounts of power. Think of 200hp as the ceiling for a resonable amount of money (3-4k).

but that money would be MUCH better spent upgrading to a newer, faster, more powerful eng. that will start out with the same power as a built boosted 2xr.
