not bad i say try it again, and turn the opacity down on the color tool. the more you F with it the more you'll learn just make a lot of different saves, like "sig1" then F with it and make "sig2" so if you do something you cant undo or decide ya dont like where ya went with it, you can go back to a un F'd with version, or slightly F'd with version without much hassle and still be able to go back to the one you didnt like at first.
Or just send it to you and let you screw with it. LOL. Ya know I used to play Nascar online and got into painting my own skins. I actually got pretty good at it. That was so long ago I totally forgot a ton of stuff in Photoshop. I feel like a newb again, lol.
