I'm getting ready to buy a Toyota Pickup 4 cyl. 4WD Auto tranny. The engine is blown and i didn't know if i needed to know the sub model like sr5, dlx or not? Whats the difference between the two and does it matter what 2.4 lt engine i buy for it? Can you tell me what submodel it is also? I attached a photo of the truck.

I would guess thats a dlx. Does it have power windows or anything? The sr5 is the higher end model.

As far as the motor, it depends on if you want a carborated (22R) or fuel injected (22RE). The motor should say either 22R or 22RE on the front.

Ive been wondering this also. Cuz supposedly mine is an SR5 but theres really nothing special about it. No power anything. all i have is a tach. lol

And where the 22RE and 3VZE the only engines offered in the 89-95 models?

I tink i kno the answers but just want to clarify for my personal

if it's a 4cyl it's a 22re (22r was gone for 4wd by that year). It does not matter whether it's a dlx, or sr5 except for oil pressure sending unit. Yours is likely an sr5 if you have a tach in the stock cluster along with oil pressure and volts. Just buy any late model 22re (after 85) and you'll be good to go.

I've seen some 89-91's with the 22R, unless it was a swap.

    True.

    I did find a 92-95 4runner with a 22R on a Washington craigslist a few days ago, must've been a swap.

the oldest 22r non injected motor was the 89 2wd, the oldest 4wd was 88. the dlx and sr5 are the same as all other toyota models, the dlx is a step up from the stripped model, the dlx has the cig lighter, cloth on the seat, radio, a/c, rear slider, and p/s were an option, the sr5 had ps, a/c, pw, pdl, carpet, carpet door panels, cloth door panels, clock, pin stripe, defrost, rear slider and moon roof were a option.:waytogo:

It was 85 or 87 was the last year for the 22r. I have 4wd that was only made for a half a year. 22re but with the straight axle. Made right when they went to the 22re and the last of the solid front axles.
