Hey guys, I have a 89 Pickup with a 22r, and it has been acting a bit strange lately. I noticed that when going from a dead stop, it seems as though I need to slip the clutch a bit more than normal in order for it to get going without bogging. Also, if I get off the gas in 3rd or 4th gear, and then get back on the gas lightly, it feels like the clutch doesn't engage all the way or something. The rpms will jump a bit and then it will sort of catch back into gear real quickly. Occasionally when the truck has sat for a while and I let the clutch out fairly quickly in 2nd or 3rd while shifting, the truck stumbles and feels like it isn't engaged 100% I was thinking that it may need a new clutch, does anyone have any suggestions? Also, what is a good aftermarket clutch kit to go with?
when i had to change my clutch, 1st and 2nd gear seemed to pull fine unless i tried to launch hard then it'd slip like a banana peel and anytime i was accelorating up to speed it would slip going into 3rd and 4th and felt like it had turned completely loose til i let out and got back into it. the way you described it, it does sound like it's time for a clutch. and the style of clutch you want, depeneds on the way you drive it. i went with an OE clutch because i don't drive it all that hard and also because of the weight it takes to disengage and aftermarket one. i was going to go with a stage 2 off of like ebay but i decided that my leg would hate me being in stop and go traffic on the highway during rush hour and also all the stop and go i do as a delivery driver. go with what clutch is best suited for you driving style
If it's all stock, regular parts store clutch kits are fine. Marlin crawler has some nice ones that are overkill for stock. I've heard good things about some of the exedy kits on ebay. However, a bad/slipping clutch won't cause egine problems...power just won't get from the engine to the wheels. I suspect that you have engine problems in addition to clutch problems.
