i know its kind of a touchy subject for some but im not looking to debae right from wrong, im just curious...... considering my late night habits, i came to wonder.... who else does it? i know these trucks arent very "ideal" street racing machines but given what i have and what ive gone up against...... i say its enough to be fun should you find a worthy opponent.
We have illegal street racing around here. Alot of the tuner guys do it every weekend just south of Boise (in what we call the high desert). I haven't gone in quite some time. The last time I went I had my 91 Wrangler and was just watching, when about 6 state troopers (3 from each side on a 2 lane road) showed up. I got in my Jeep, put it in 4wd and went off-road. Got to a high spot, turned off my lights and waited til everyone was gone. I know as well it is a touchy subject with some, but I have had my fair share of "racing to the next light" episodes. I actually raced a Dodge Ram Hemi ext cab not too long ago. And as I started to pull away, he backed off. I out cornered a BMW getting on the interstate the other day, it was an onramp that circles. Then when he passed me when I was doin the speed limit, I got on it again. He was surprized to see that I was keeping up with him doin about 90. I backed off after a mile or so, its my only car right now. I have been thinking about trying the truck in autocross in the spring before it gets bagged.
When it comes time to have the motor done detailed/rebuilt, I am thinking about having some more power added to it, I'm not into racing and keeping the stock motor but a little more power on the pedal would be pretty cool, added a new weber and can tell some difference between that and the stock carb, maybe a header, I know LC Engineering has some pretty cool motor upgrades for our trucks.
a civic dx hatch around 2 this morning...and the other night a 06+ tundra oh..... and this is open highway tap-out not actual city street racing.

years ago, in my '86, I would find typical ricecars for the area (usually some 4cyl fwd with front and rear bumper covers and a fart can) and tell them they had a nice car. Then I'd ask how it ran, which was normally answered with "it's pretty quick!". I'd run once without spray...and I'd granny shift, just to make sure they got out in front of me pretty good. This is the point in time, I'd request another run because I'm not used to driving my truck like that. They'd comply, but they always wanted to put money on it...so I did. Upon the second approach to the "start line", I'd open the bottle, and arm my system..... Dumping that truck at ~3k would spin ~4 feet, then it was on the bottle till ~6k at which point in time, I'd shift and get right back on the bottle..... After putting 4-5 cars on them (usually) I'd collect my money, and pop the hood. Suprizingly, only 2 people ever noticed the braided stainless feed lines running to the intake! This happened to: a neon, a tiburon, 2 civics, an s-10 and various other fart can equipped rides.... Around here, rust=weight reduction!
I try, I try.... When time and money allow (which I hope is summer '10), expect many sneaky things from this 87 I got now. Easy money, kinda...after the first 5 or 6 cars, people started saying things like "is this the truck that outran :random name: last week?" oh well, I made enough to keep the bottle full!
