Is it possible? I have a line on a chrome rear from a 91 PU for $30 but it's got a decent punch on the right side of it. Not scratched just bowled in type. Has anyone had luck pounding these out a little bit? Will the chrome flake? If I can't I could probably leverage it for a cheaper price. But ultimately want a straight bumper. I'm swapping out my black battle bumper on my 84 to match my chrome package.
I've always had good luck fixing front Toyota bumpers so a rear should clean up easy. They might be a little thicker than a front. Blocks of wood to absorb the hammer blow helps avoid chrome damage.
Right on. Do you ever use heat or anything? Or just cold pound it? I got big hammer and blocks and am familiar with backyard body fixes.
I use a combination of wooden blocks, large hammers, steel toe boots and many beers to fix all mine in the past. No heat ever used. I did leave the fat dimple on the driver corner of my 78s front bumper from when I bounced off a wall doing a 100mph freeway curve drift good reminder NOT TO DO THAT
Haha ya a little momento. So I got it all straightened out using a hydraulic bearing press and a brass drift with a 4lbs sledge to fine tune it. It's not perfect but tons better and I worked some magic and got it for only $20. I'm a happy camper I tried to install it this morning and realized the hole angles are different from the bumper I currently have. Should I find 4x4 brackets? Or just die grind the one hole oval til it lines up? What typically happens there. I was under the impression it was a bolt up since I've never read where anyone mentions modifying the brackets which I am ok with. Just figuring the easiest route to take.
