In my 92 ex cab I have only found the 4"dash speakers. Best buy says I should have (2) 6.5 in the doors and (2) 6.5 in the rear. Is this true? Also any pics of installs you have would be helpfull.
The base / standard audio unit was 2 speakers in the dash. This (I think...) was the only system available in the Regular Cab. There *was* a 4-speaker version available for the XtraCab, but I'm not sure what speaker sizes were offered or whether it was standard (vs. optional). My 1993 XtraCab had the 4-speaker system. I don't recall whether it was a standard feature or an option. I had the small (3"?) dash speakers plus some indeterminate-sized speakers in the rear side panels. I swapped out the dash speakers for a pair of Infiniti 2-ways, and it made a noticeable difference. I never got around to changing the rear speakers. Attached are a couple of diagrams (from 1993 FSM) illustrating the layouts.
i have a 93 xtracab. it only has the 2 4" speakers in the dash. i have an old pair of 8" subs in truck boxes back there at the moment with the 2 4s. its does the job till i get the funds up for something better.
Best Buy is a bunch of morons. They are probably using the database for the tacoma's. There has never been door speakers for the yota mini's. However, you can cut the door panels and put a set of speakers I've seen this done many times. The only thing is to run the speaker wires from under the dash to to the doors.
I agree, I've not seen any third gen. pickups or 4runners with door speakers. Except these..... Some MDF, fleece, and resin and you are there.
If you can get the speaker pod to come out absolutely flat (mine is bowed slightly) you can just run a few screws through the back of the door panel. The problem is that the resin tends to want to shrink and warp a bit.
