its probably never been discussed here but i know its been discussed in offroad forums for the desert guys....

is there a way (or should i say how do i go about) to shorten the throw on the steering? like......... make the steering react faster with less turning angle at the steering wheel?

to clear things up, what im talking about is if there is a way to where you can cut down on the steering effort and time it takes to reach respond or full lock. some of the off road trucks have this and it only take like half a turn to steer to full lock.

camaro's i think this type of "fast steer" response where turning to full lock only takes a 2/3rds of a turn on the steering wheel (from the 12 o'clock position).

i think i had seen or read about people shortening or lengthening the pitman arm and/or idler arms down to make the steering react faster.... but im not completely sure.

if you were gonna shorten the pitman arm you'd have to make one from scratch, and a idler arm too.

both are cast, and all the ones ive ever seen are cast from teh aftermarket.

tho thinking about it, thats not such a bad idea. you could even make em adjustable without too much extra effort

what about redrilling the hole on the spindle where the tie rod mounts closer to the middle of the spindle? or making a new bolt on part, so its getting a shorter throw on the arms? this is what happens when you use a dakota drop spindle on a full size dodge and dont swap to the dakota rack. it makes a quicker steering since the arm is 3" shorter.

or like said, an adjustable pitman and idler. maybe cut it in half and put threaded rod in there to adjust it in or out?

i hadnt looked into it so much as of yet but i know i want a faster response out of the steering wheel with less movement from it..... ill be looking into this and the planetary gear thing....
